BOOK EXTENSION ACTIVITY - LESSON PLAN

 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details.
2. Objectives:
SWBAT -
 Students will describe the animals in the story.
 Students will be able to describe the weather in the dessert.

3. Materials/Equipment:
 Creatures of the desert world book.
 Animals toy
4. Teaching:
A. Reading the book
 Start by showing the cover of the book and ask what animal do they see on the cover.
Discuss their answer, ask student to discuss with two more people the cover of the book
and the title. Ask them to predict what the book is going to be about. Discuss their
answer. Start reading the book after reading the first page ask students what animals do,
they see on the illustration and write their answer on the board. read the next page, after
reading ask students what animals do, they see on the pictures and write the answer on the
board, as students to discuss about the background of the illustration. Read the next page
and ask students what they see on the illustration what they have learn from the text.
Read the next page ask students what animals do they see what they think that is the
weather on the illustration. Read the next page ask students what animals do they see on
the page and write their answer on the board. read the last page and ask students what
they see on the illustration, ask to talk to a person and tell one fact that they learn about
the book. Then ask each student what is their favorite animal from the book.
B. Extension activity:
 Ask students to get in groups of four, ask students to discuss what their favorite animals
are form the book and why. Show the animals toys and ask students to identify the
animals. Then ask each student to get animal it can be their favorite or a different animal.
Then ask students to get back in their group, ask students to describe the dessert. walk
outside the classroom and ask students to find a space that looks like a dessert. After
finding the perfect place for the animals ask students to get in their groups, ask students to
share one fact about their animal with their group. The ask students to other three
different persons and share the fact about their animal too. Make sure that students have
the opportunity to interact with all the other students in the classroom. After going back to
the classroom ask each student to share what they learn about the other animals.

5. Closure:

 Ask students to discuss if they would like to visit the Arizonan Sonoran desert, or if they
would like to live in a the dessert with this animals.
