Local WA company secures place at Rio Tinto’s latest project

Mine Site Fencing Australia and sister company Maintenance for Mines Australia have
fought off fierce competition to win $1 million contract to oversee shutdown operations at
Rio Tinto’s latest Iron Ore site, Silvergrass.

Rio Tinto officially opened the Silvergrass mine last year in August. The $338 million project
is the sixteenth mine to open alongside Rio Tinto’s current iron ore operations.

During its year- long build, Mine Site Fencing Australia were selected to be a part of the
construction phase. They supplied boom gates and operators to ensure haul trucks were still
able to deliver tonnage during construction.

Rio Tinto Iron Ore chief executive Chris Salisbury said “Silvergrass is another Rio Tinto
project delivering value for Western Australia with design, construction and commissioning
all undertaken by WA companies”.

Silvergrass created 500 jobs for Western Australians during the construction phase. Of those
500 jobs, 250 were kept for ongoing jobs. Mine Site Fencing Australia and Maintenance for
Mines Australia have now secured 20 of those.

The local WA company will be a part of the sites shutdown operations where they will assist
in mining maintenance solutions including tool store operations, plant and equipment
refuelling as well as telehandler operators.

Managing Director Jason Pymm said this is a massive step for the company as we now
operate at all four of Rio Tinto’s Greater Brockman sites since our debut in 2011.

We are so proud to offer a crew of experienced specialists dedicated to providing high

quality maintenance and repair services for mining projects, said Operations Manager Amy
Hudson.

A great initiative started by the company is their supply of drinks and lollies which are sold
in the Rio Tinto tool stores with all proceeds going to the Royal Flying Doctors. Shutdown
operations at Silvergrass will begin in the coming months with this same initiative being
implemented. So far, the company has raised over $10,000 for the cause.
