Abstract

Institute of Technology, Princeton University Press, and Tizra (publishing platform) collaborated to provide open access to the 13 volumes and
supplements of the Collected Papers of [Albert Einstein] (CH, Jul'90, 27- 6321). The web presentation matches the print version and covers
Einstein's writings and correspondence (letters, papers, postcards, diaries, academic recommendations, grant applications, and nominations for
prizes) through 1923.

The Digital Einstein Papers: The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein, from
Princeton University Press. http://einsteinpapers.press.princeton.edu/

[Visited Feb'14] Hebrew University of Jerusalem, California Institute of Technology,

Princeton University Press, and Tizra (publishing platform) collaborated to provide
open access to the 13 volumes and supplements of the Collected Papers of Albert
Einstein (CH, Jul'90, 27-6321). The web presentation matches the print version
and covers Einstein’s writings and correspondence (letters, papers, postcards,
diaries, academic recommendations, grant applications, and nominations for
prizes) through 1923. Enhancements of the digital presentation include ease of
movement between English and German with search indexing in both languages,
internal links for chapters, footnotes, back-of-the-book indexes, and links to
many archive records and digitized manuscripts at the Einstein Archive Online (CH,
Jul’12, 50-0936). Not all documents have been translated into English. Further
volumes will be added approximately two years after book publication.

Browsing is organized by volume; the table of contents for a volume being viewed
is always available through a left menu, and a top banner shows which volume and
page is being displayed. Clicking the document title switches between languages
when available. Printing is limited to the page being displayed. Page zooming is
possible. A few glitches should be remedied. The share function for social media
did not work on a Mac using three di!erent browsers but did work on a PC. The
standard hand symbol for hyperlinks did not appear across all major browsers.
Last, external links replace the current browser window rather than opening a new
window, so context is lost. A How To section does explain all the features of the
website, including where hyperlinks should be expected; the site's visual clues are
opaque, so this page gives necessary information. Providing free online access to
such a scholarly, well-crafted, and reviewed resource is important and laudable,
ensuring continued mining of this material by a much broader contingent.
Summing Up: Highly recommended. All academic, general, and professional
collections.

Knowledge transfer is obviously a key factor for colleges and universities and is directly associated with the provision of scientific information. The

Academic publications and pedagogy have been deeply reconfigured by the emergence of a new kind of knowledge produced by multimodal
