Everything you need to know about how our exams work
Entrance Exams
These exams are available to you before your account has been activated. For the English team,
these exams are the English Transcriber Skills Assessment and the QuickStep Exam. Entrance exams
have their own Style Guides that must be followed when completing the exam as well as when
completing the live work for which the exam qualifies you. For further details about each of these
exams, please view the Check Exam Info link next to them on your Exams tab.
Language Exams
If we are hiring for another one of our language teams, their exams will also be available to you
through your Exams tab. They are also entrance exams and so they have their own Style Guides to
be followed. If an exam does not appear in your Exams list, then we either do not offer that language
or that team is not currently hiring. For information on those exams, please view the Check Exam
Info link located next to them through your Exams tab.
Accent Exams
There are accent exams for many of the languages we offer. However, here we will only discuss the
English accent exams.
Our standard accent is English (US) and that is the default language/spelling that should be used
when completing files. Please note that the accent classification will not necessarily reflect the
accent of the speakers involved in the recording. It is rather an indication of the spelling the client
would like to be used in the transcript.
We currently provide the client with the option of ordering in five other accents:
British
Australian
New Zealand
Scottish
Irish
We have an accent exam for each of these accents. These exams will follow the General Style Guide.
For more information about these exams, please view the Check Exam Info link located next to them
through your Exams tab.
When we use exams to hire for special teams, these exams will be limited based on the need of the
project or based on when the project is running (unlike accent exams that are always available).
For example, our Medical team only hires in short windows at this time based on the need of the
team.
When these sorts of exams become available, an announcement will be made on our Yammer
network. We will also often email any qualifying candidates with the details of the team.
Advancement Exams
Sometimes, advancement is by invitation only (like our Reviewer positions). However, we do have
some positions that you can qualify for with further testing.
The best example of this would be our QA exam. Completing this exam will qualify you to apply for
one of our QA (Quality Assurance) positions. There are several prerequisites you must reach before
this exam will become available to you.
Reactivation Exams
The reactivation exams are required if your account has been deactivated due to inactivity and you
would like to return to work. We currently have our Reactivation Exam #1 and Reactivation Exam #2.
Only one of these exams needs to be completed at a time. If your account has been deactivated and
you have passed the relevant reactivation exam, please allow us up to three business days to process
your application and reactivate your account. If your account has not been reactivated after that
allowed time, please contact us at training@transcribeme.com and we will try to assist you in any
way we can.
Google Chrome
Please note that the WorkHub needs to be opened using Google Chrome only. You will not be able
to access our website using any other browser. We also suggest clearing your cache and browser
history (hotkey ctrl + shift +del) before commencing an exam. This can help avoid any little bugs
popping up during the exam. It can also be helpful to access the WorkHub in an incognito window
(hotkey ctrl + shift + N).
If you experience any technical difficulties while completing an exam and you have tried the above
steps, please contact us through training@transcribeme.com and we will try to assist you.
Helpful Tips
➢ Please do read through the Style Guide carefully before commencing. The most recent Style
Guide will always be available for download through the Check Exam Info link next to the
exam, so please do make sure you are referring to it while completing the exam.
➢ We would strongly recommend that you Google any names or references that you are not
familiar with, as that is part of what we expect you to do when completing live work with us.
➢ We can suggest using a free grammar checker such as Grammarly to assist you. Grammarly
offers a free version or an upgraded paid version. Please bear in mind that at TranscribeMe
we record what we hear, so we do not change a speaker's words if they used incorrect
grammar.
➢ Always make sure you are reading each question carefully so that you know how to properly
format your answers.
Please note that the exam is divided into sections. Every time the exam is opened, the questions in
these sections will be shuffled. To avoid losing progress, especially for our audio portions, we
strongly recommend completing our exams in one sitting, as mentioned. If this is not possible, please
complete the section you are working on before leaving the exam. This will prevent the exam
shuffling in a new question when you next log in.
You must score 100% for all of the multiple choice questions in order to pass them.
The passing percentage required for any audio questions will vary depending on what the exam is
testing for and the audio in question. It can be anywhere between 80 and 100 percent.
In order to pass an exam, you must pass every question on the exam within the same attempt. If you
pass a question in your first attempt but fail that same question in your next attempt, we cannot
transfer the pass from your first attempt over to your second. They all must be passing within the
same attempt.
Once you have hit the Next button for a question, you will no longer be able to go back to that
question again. You must answer the questions as they are presented to you and will not have the
opportunity to navigate back to a previous question. If you accidentally skip past a question or you
know you have answered a question incorrectly, you will have the opportunity to amend your
mistake by using a retry for that section.
Each section of an exam will have at least one retry available. That means that you will have the
opportunity to retry the full section again, should you need to. There is no way to retry only one
question from a section. You will always be presented with the full section again.
Please remember that when using a retry the questions will be shuffled and will not necessarily be
presented to you in the same order as they previously were.
With regards to completing the exam itself, we do suggest that you DO NOT copy and paste your
answers when completing the exam for any question. Outside formatting can be present in text that
comes from external sources (such as Word), and that can interfere with our platform. Please always
type your answers directly into the box provided.
Additionally, please ensure that your keyboard is set to English if you have a multilingual keyboard.
Some punctuation and letters can be different on other keyboards and these will count against you
as these are English exams.
If you typically type in another language, you can check your keyboard language settings on a
Windows computer through the Control Panel under Clock, Language, and Region.
If you experience any technical difficulties while completing an exam that are not resolved by the
above suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us through training@transcribeme.com.
This is where you will be able to access your available retries for any section with which you have
been unsuccessful.
Please don’t worry about retrying sections that are all displayed in green/passing in an effort to get a
higher percentage score overall. We only look to see that you’ve passed every question on the exam
within an attempt, in which case you’ve passed the exam as a whole!
The number of tries you’ve used will be listed under the Retries of Maximum Possible heading, and
you will see this for each section of the exam.
If you have not yet used all of your available retries, a link labeled Retry will be displayed under the
Retry heading. Clicking this link will return you to that section of the exam.
Please do note that you will be presented with all of the questions from that section again, and so
you will have to answer each question again. They may also be presented to you in a different order.
Please do not submit any blank answers because the answers provided on your retry will override
your previous answers. Blank answers will result in a failing result for that question.
The questions are always listed in the same order on the Results Page, but since your questions are
always shuffled, these orders will not line up directly. We do this to avoid our applicants taking a
trial-and-error approach to our exams, especially for our multiple choice questions.
Please rest assured that the same text will always return the same result. If you are expecting the
results to be listed in the order in which you completed the questions, there can be the appearance
of a glitch in the grading. However, once you know that the order in which you answer the questions
has nothing to do with the order of the results page, it should become clear why there is the
apparent discrepancy in marking.
The above is true for all of our exams that you will attempt on our platform.
Once you have done so, you will be presented with a message letting you know that you have not
been successful with the exam this time.
If you navigate back to your Exams tab at the top of your page, you will now see a new Attempt the
Exam link located below your first attempt.
Clicking this new link will direct you to your next attempt.
In order to receive a passing result for the exam, you must pass every question on the exam within
an attempt. If you pass a section of the exam on your first attempt but fail that same section on your
second attempt, you are not able to combine both attempts in order to pass the exam.
To maintain the integrity of our exams, we are unfortunately not able to provide any direct feedback
with regards to how you can improve on your exam if you have received a failed attempt. There is
also no way to specifically see where you made your errors. The only feedback you can receive is
provided through the Results page.
Some exams are only open for a short time, such as our Medical team exams. When these teams are
hiring, an announcement will be made on Yammer and you will see the exams in your list through
your Exams tab. Once these exams are closed, they will not reopen even after the wait period has
elapsed, until our administrative team manually reopens them.
Please do make sure that you hit the Complete Exam button so that your passing grade can be
registered in our system.
● If you have completed an Entrance or a Language exam, your application will be reviewed by
the team lead for that language or team and you will be contacted with further information
regarding starting work in that language or for that team.
● If you have completed an Accent exam, you will now qualify to receive files uploaded for
that accent. Your account will automatically be set to receive these files. If any are available
in the system, they will be accessible through the regular work channels of the Jobs and
Sessions tabs.
● If you have completed a Special Project exam, your application will be reviewed by one of
our administrative team for that project and you will be contacted with further information.
● If you have completed a Further Work Options exam, you will in most cases now qualify to
complete the files for these other work opportunities (just like an accent exam). These files
will now be available to you through the regular work channels of the Jobs and Sessions
tabs.
● If you have completed a Reactivation exam, your application will be reviewed by one of our
administrative team and you will be contacted with further information regarding your
account.

exam.
Not Allowed
● Copying someone else’s answers and submitting them as your own.

Consequences
If we find you have not followed our rules for completing our exams, there are a few
consequences that may result.
● If you cheat on an entrance exam when your account has been activated by
completing another entrance exam, you will forfeit your opportunity to work on
the files that would have been available to you by passing this second
entrance exam, but your account will remain open. You will not be allowed to
attempt the exam in the future.
If we find you have cheated on multiple exams, then your account status may be in jeopardy.
We will assess your account and decide whether it will be blocked or allowed to remain
open.
Please note that if your account has been activated, we will always contact you if your
account has been blocked for any reason.
