1
PREFACE

For a management student training plays an important role during his/her study. Training provides
a corporate or real world platform to learn practically. MBA degree without any training or
corporate world experience is just like life without oxygen. So industrial training provides a great
learning experience about management concepts and its applications.

This training provides us an opportunity to know the current market. To know the current market
situations, prevailing competitions, behavioural environment of different people etc. It provides us a
platform whereby we can apply our theoretical knowledge and we can solve many practical
problems. And hence it can help us to be a successful manager in future.

Thanks to all those who directly or indirectly help me to complete this project within a short time
limit. For preparation of this report I would like to thanks to faculty members of our college and staff
members of SHARE KHAN LTD. I would like to especially thank to Dr. Ankit shah and
Mr. Sarfaraj Pinjara who were become so helpful me during my summer project.

2
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I am very much thankful to the administration and staff of C K Shah Vijapurwala Institute of
Management for providing us the opportunity to undertake this project as a part of academic
requirement.

of his timely advice and expert guidance and suggestion, that I was able to completed my
project.

I am very much thankful to Mr. Sarfaraj Pinjara (Territory Manager) Sharekhan Ltd. who

indirectly supported us in the project.

3
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report is all about the “A STUDY OF PERFORMANCE AND INVESTORS OPINION
ABOUT SHARE MARKET AND MUTUAL FUND” at Sharekhan ltd. And the main aim of
this report is to have an adequate knowledge of products and services of share market and
also increase awareness among people of this company. Sharekhan is a brokering firm
which deals in the stock market.

Conceptually the mechanism of stock market is very simple. People who are exposed to the
same risk come together and agree that if anyone of the person suffers loss the other will
share the loss & make good to the person who lost.

The initial part of the project focuses on the job & responsibilities. I was allotted as a
summer trainee. It also makes the readers aware about the techniques & methodology used
to bring this report alive.

It enlightens the readers about Sharekhan ltd. strategies to acquire new customers. Further
the project tells us the profile of the company. It provides knowledge to the readers
regarding the company’s history, mission, vision, customers base & the reason to be
associated with the company. Also it gives special emphasis on the selling of products &
management of the company.

There is growing competition between brokerage firms in post reform India. For investor it is
always difficult to decide which brokerage firm to choose. Research was carried out to find
which brokerage house people prefer and to figure out what people prefer while investing in
stock market.

4
This study suggests the overall process of sales at Sharekhan Ltd., from the scratch i.e.
from tele calling to fixing appointments with the client, from which a rigid analysis was
carried out.

In the broking firm the client and the client database is the asset of the company, the
management of such an asset is very important. The client database keeps on growing if it
is well managed, on addition of the new clients we should not compromise with the service
of the old clients. By this project we came to know how the database is managed in the
company.

Through this report I was also able to understand, what are our Company’s i.e. Sharekhan
Ltd. positive and strong points, on the basis of which I come to know what can be the basis
of pitching to a potential client. I also gave suggestions to the company, what improvement
can be done to our product.

The next part of the project throws light upon my findings & analysis about the company.

5

Process of account opening:

Share market

Primary Market:

The primary market is also known as new issues market. Here, the transaction is conducted
between the issuer and the buyer. In short, the primary market creates new securities and offers
them to the public.

For instance, Initial Public Offering (IPO) is an offering of the primary market where a private
company decides to sell stocks to the public for the first time. An important point to remember here
is that in the primary market, securities are directly purchased from the issuer.

15
Secondary Market

In secondary market, the securities issued in the primary market are bought and sold. Here, you
can buy a share directly from a seller and the stock exchange or broker acts as an intermediary
between two parties.

The secondary market is actually formed by another layer of investors who deal with primary
market investor to buy and sell financial securities such as bonds, futures and stocks. These
dealings happen in the proverbial stock exchange. National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay
stock exchange (BSE) are some popular stock exchanges. Majorly, there are 23 number of
exchanges available in market. the trade happens between investors without any involvement with
the company that issued the securities in the primary market.

20
1.3 Growth of the industry
Sharekhan Ltd continues to hold a strong position in the retail broking space, servicing
around 14 lakh retail clients as on December 31, 2016. The main business activity of the
company is retail equity broking with a small presence in portfolio management services
and in the distribution of financial products. For FY2016, on a consolidated basis, equity
broking income accounted for 63% of the total revenues of the company. The other
prominent sources of income for the company include – net interest income (19%), trading
income (11%), income from depository services (3%) and miscellaneous income (4%).

On a consolidated level, Sharekhan Ltd.’s net operating income decreased by 4% in

FY2016 to Rs. 547 crores from Rs. 570 crores in FY2015, mainly on account of decrease in
broking income due to moderation of yields and decrease in dividend income. With
moderation in the branch count during FY2016, SKL’s operating expenses (as a % of
Average Total Assets) decreased to 18.50% for FY2016 as compared to 19.65% for
FY2015. The pace of decrease of expenses was slower than the decrease of operating
income which resulted in the decline in PAT to Rs. 145 crores for FY2016 as compared to
Rs. 181 crores for FY2015. Similarly, net profits as % of Average Total Assets (ATA)
decreased to 6.90% in FY2016 vis-a-vis 9.23% in FY2015.

An IPO, or Initial Public Offering, is the sale of shares by a company to the public for the first time.
Colloquially, it is said that a company is 'going public.'

How is then that companies like ONGC and GAIL which are already listed are going for an 'IPO'
again?

The government is the majority stockholder in these companies and it is offering a percentage of
its stock now to the public. So strictly speaking, public sector companies that are already listed are
not having their 'IPO' but they are going for a 'public offering' of their shares. It's a technical
distinction and one that should not bother individual investors. To apply to an IPO, you have to fill
an IPO application form.

CHAPTER: 9

CONCLUSION

o SHAREKHAN is one such place or organization where a customer is overall satisfied by the
varied range of services provided by them which includes De-mating of shares, stock
broking, investments in equities, derivatives, commodities, PMS, advisory services, mutual
funds, IPO's, best research reports but there is still some scope of improvement in the
brokerage rates and the trading software (TRADE TIGER) which is provided by the
Sharekhan. It is a place which is providing various services all under one roof it is also
known to be a Share khan’s Share Shops.

o They help the customers by providing timely updates about the market and various services
and products available with them.

o From this analysis, it is seen that the satisfaction level about the overall service does not
depend on response time or price but depends on the level of satisfaction with quality. It is
therefore clear that the customer's perception about service level depends on their
perception about quality.

o It is also seen that satisfaction level with quality depends on the rejection rates experienced
by the customers. Therefore, the company should make efforts to ensure that the rejection
level at the customer end is minimized. This will improve the customer's perception about
quality as well as service level.

o Since the period of response and price levels do not influence perception about service
level, it is adequate if the company maintains the present level but concentrate on its effort
in reducing rejections experienced by the customer.

67
CHAPTER : 10

RECOMMENDATIONS

o The company should come up with schemes wherein the brokerage is less than the earlier
existing scheme.

o The company should reduce the account maintenance charges.

o The company can increase the customer base if it reduces the minimum margin
requirement which will boost the competition.

o The company should give training to their Sales executive regarding the behaviour to be
adopted in front of the Customers.

o The company should focus on the customer satisfaction and provide them with full care and
advice.

o Company has to get periodical feedback from all its customers and it can track them
constantly to know their queries.
