INTRODUCTION

A. Background

Nutrition is the relationship of foods to the health of the human body. Proper
nutrition means that you are receiving enough foods and supplements for the body to
function at optimal capacity. It is important to remember that no single nutrient or
activity can maintain optimal health and well being, although it has been proven that
some nutrients are more important than others. All of the nutrients are necessary in
different amounts along with exercise to maintain proper health. There are six main
types of nutrients used to maintain body health. They are carbohydrates, fats,
proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water.
They all must be in balance for the body to function properly. There are also five
major food groups. The groups are fats and oils, fruits and vegetables, dairy
products, grains, and meats. Exercise is also an important part of nutrition. Exercise
helps tone and maintain muscle tissue and ensure that the body's organs stay in
good condition. Healthy eating without exercise will not result in good nutrition and a
healthy body - neither will exercise without nutrition. The most important thing about
exercise is that it be practiced regularly and that it be practiced in accompaniment
with a healthy diet. It is also desirable to practice more that one sport as different
sports exercise different areas of the body.

THEORITICAL STUDY

A. Kind of Job of Graduated Nutrition Department Students

Registered dietitians and nutritionists are clinical experts whose work often takes
them to hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and other healthcare
facilities. But a career in nutrition doesn’t have to be bound by the four walls of the
clinical setting.
Outside of clinical practice, careers in nutrition include performing research at
colleges, universities, and governmental/private research facilities, helping
governmental and private agencies set policies used to develop and administer
nutrition programs, and overseeing product development and quality control in
private food companies/corporations.

First, work in Clinical Dietetics/Nutrition (Work in inpatient and outpatient settings,

Work with specific populations (older adults, infants, adolescents, pregnant women),
Work in specific medical specialties (pediatric, renal, diabetes, nutrition support).

Second, is work in Food and Nutrition Management (Provide consulting services

for healthy eating options to : Hospitals, Businesses, Schools, Restaurants and
Hotels).

Third, is work in Public Health Nutrition (Work with federal government

organizations, such as USDA and FDA, Work with state and local agencies in
programs such as Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Congregate Meals
programs).

Fourth, is work in Nutrition Education and Research (Work with state boards of
education and nutrition/health councils, Provide nutrition education and wellness
programs to businesses, Work in research settings, overseeing clinical trials and
interventions)

Fifth, is work in Private Practice/Consulting (Provide consultation services to

clients in areas such as: Diabetes management, Weight management, Eating
disorders, Sports nutrition, Provide consultation services to clients at health
clubs/spas)

Sixth, is work in Business and Industry (Work in marketing, public relations,

quality control, and research and development for : Food manufacturers,
Nutraceutical companies, Pharmaceutical companies, Food service vendors, Food
service contract management, Trade associations)

And the last is work in International Food Organizations

B. Definition of Healthy

As defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), it is "State of complete

physical, mental, and social well being, and not only the absence of disease or
infirmity." Health is a dynamic condition resulting from a body's constant adjustment
and adaptation in response to stresses and changes in the environment for
maintaining inner equilibrium called homeostasis.

Being the healthiest you can possibly be means eating a variety of healthy foods,
being physically active and understanding the nutrients you need to protect your
bones, immune system, physical and mental health. A healthy eating plan, knowing
which diets work, how active you should be for your age and what you can do to
manage your weight are important too.

C. Healthy Indicator

A health indicator is a measure designed to summarize information about a given

priority topic in population health or health system performance. Health indicators
provide comparable and actionable information across different geographic,
organizational or administrative boundaries and/or can track progress over time.

Health indicators support provinces/territories, regional health authorities and

institutions as they monitor the health of their populations and track how well their
local health systems function. They help in monitoring key performance dimensions
described in the Health System Performance Measurement Framework, which
provides a common approach for managing health system performance across the
country.

Common example of a health indicator is life expectancy. A government might

have a system for collecting information on each citizen's age at the time of death.
This data about age at death can be used to support statements about the national
life expectancy, in which case life expectancy would be a "health indicator". Life
expectancy may be one of many "health indicators" which collectively researchers
would use to describe the health of the population of the country.

A health indicator which will be used internationally to describe global health

should have the following characteristics: It should be defined in such a way that it
can be measured uniformly internationally, It must have statistical validity, The
indicator must be data which can feasibly be collected, The analysis of the data must
result in a recommendation on which people can make changes to improve health.
D. Kind of Nutritions Diseases

Nutritional disease, any of the nutrient-related diseases and conditions that cause
illness in humans. They may include deficiencies or excesses in the diet, obesity and
eating disorders, and chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease,
hypertension, cancer, and diabetes mellitus. Nutritional diseases also include
developmental abnormalities that can be prevented by diet, hereditary metabolic
disorders that respond to dietary treatment, the interaction of foods and nutrients
with drugs, food allergies and intolerances, and potential hazards in the food supply.
All of these categories are described in this article. For a discussion of essential
nutrients, dietary recommendations, and human nutritional needs and concerns
throughout the life cycle, see nutrition, human.
For example is Rickets (Deficiency of Vitamin D along with calcium and
potassium in the body causes rickets. One may need to resort to dietary
supplements for making up for the lack of the “sunshine vitamin” in the body)
Pellagra (Dementia, diarrhea, dermatitis and death are “the four Ds” that
characterize Pellagra, a disease caused by the lack of Niacin or B3 in the body. The
deficiency of niacin is also accompanied by a short supply of the amino acids,
tryptophan and lysine or the excessive presence of lysine in the body)
Scurvy (Alarmingly reduced levels of Vitamin C or ascorbic acid in the body
can cause scurvy. Scurvy basically inhibits the production of collagen in the body
which is the structural protein that connects the tissues. One must ensure optimal
consumption of Vitamin C by having citrus fruits like oranges, lemon, strawberry etc
and broccoli regularly)
Beri Beri (Lack of Vitamin B1 or thiamine in the body leads to the disease
called beri beri. The most common symptoms of this illness are altered muscle
coordination, nerve degeneration and cardiovascular problems. Meat, eggs, whole
grains, dried beans etc are rich in thiamine and thus, should be consumed in proper
amounts everyday to avoid this painful ailment)
Xerophthalmia or Night Blindness (Xerophthalmia or night blindness is
characterized by blindness due to the poor growth, dryness and keratinisation of
epithelial tissue or chronic eye infection. The cause of this disease is attributed to the
deficiency of Vitamin A in the body)
Kwashiorkor (Kwashiorkor is a deficiency disease caused by lack of protein
and energy in the body. It is characterized by anorexia, an enlarged liver, irritability
and ulcerating dermatoses. These are the one of the nutritional deficiencies in
children, especially from famine-struck areas and places with poor food supply,
Kwashiokor is caused by malnutrition. A healthy and balanced diet enriched with
protein and carbohydrate sources like eggs, lentils, rice etc helps combat this
problem)
Depression (Problems of depression, hair loss, rashes and mental issues are
caused by the deficiency of Vitamin B7 or biotin. This deficiency can be fatal if
present in an aggravated form. Consume poultry products, dairy items, peanuts, nuts
etc that are rich sources of biotin. These must be consumed along with supplements
to recover and prevent these illnesses)
Osteoporosis (Deficiency of Vitamin D and calcium in the body can negatively
affect the health of the bones and spine. It leads to unhealthy, soft and brittle bones
that are prone to fractures and defects in the spine structure. Bananas, spinach,
milk, okra, soy and sunlight are natural sources of Vitamin D and calcium that act to
eliminate this deficiency)

E. Effort to Coup Nutritions Diseases

Efforts that can be made include: maintaining a diet, eating vegetables, eating
fruits, exercising regularly, sleeping regularly (don't sleep less than 8 hours), not
eating many foods that contain: fat, calories, toxic substances and much more , don't
forget to drink plenty of water (8 liters a day is recommended)
CHAPTER III
CONCLUSION

The conclusion is that “health” is really true important for all human. Human
health is also affected by foods by entering the body. Diet is highly recommended for
disease patients. Efforts that can be made include: maintaining a diet, eating
vegetables, eating fruits, exercising regularly, sleeping regularly (don't sleep less
than 8 hours), not eating many foods that contain: fat, calories, toxic substances and
much more , don't forget to drink plenty of water (8 liters a day is recommended)
And for student who graduated in Nutrition Department can work in any places
(exampel : hospital, factory, and many more)
