Pre-apprentice Intake Information 2019

We are very pleased to announce that the 2019 Intake application process will begin on
May 13, 2019.

If you have NOT;


 watched the short video in the How To Apply section,
 read the Frequently Asked Questions,
 read the Reflections on 2018 Intake located under the How To Apply tab,

We strongly recommend that you do that immediately before proceeding.

The JAC has put a significant amount of effort into providing you with instructions, directions and keys to
success. They are contained within the web content we ask you to review. If you do not take the time to
read what we provide you, you are limiting your chances for becoming a successful candidate.

The Intake Process for 2019 will have multiple steps and it is absolutely essential that the applicant read
and follow all instructions carefully as they progress through each stage. Applicants and their application
are assessed at every stage of the process whether in person, via email or over the phone.

In order to be able to complete the online application you must have;


 A scanned copy of a Certified True copy of your Ontario High School transcript,
 If currently in High School and graduating in June of 2019, a scanned copy of a Credit Counselling
Summary Report from the Guidance department is required,
 If educated outside the province of Ontario, you must have a scanned copy of your Comprehensive
Report from ICAS, Please refer to the FAQ section on the website for specific details
 A typed résumé with 3 references (NOT related to you by blood or marriage) and a cover letter
outlining why you wish to apply for a position in the J.A.C. Pre-apprenticeship Program,
 You will need a computer, laptop or tablet with a front facing camera.
 You will need to have a valid email address.

Step 1
The applicant will register online and pay the application fee. After registration they will receive a
Confirmation email with a Link to Part 1 of the application.

Step 2
The applicant will go online and complete Part 1 of the application.

Step 3
After completion of Step 2, the applicant will receive an email with the Link to the online proctored
Mechanical Aptitude Test (MAT). This is time sensitive and must be completed within the allotted
timeframe. There will be detailed instructions provided at that time.

Step 4
After completion of the MAT the applicant will receive a Link to the online proctored Essential Skills
Assessment (ESA). This is also time sensitive and must be completed within the allotted timeframe. There
will be detailed instructions provided at that time.

Applicants not moving forward will be informed at this time.


Step 5
Applicants proceeding forward in the process will receive an email outlining next steps to book an
appointment to complete Part 2 of the application in person and take part in the Job Awareness Activity.

Step 6
The applicant will arrive at a specified location at the specified time they chose and present all required
documents (Official High School Transcript, Credit Counselling and a typed résumé with cover letter
outlining why they want to become a 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician. Applicant will then
take part in the Job Awareness Activity (JAA). The JAA is simply an opportunity for the applicant to
experience tasks and skills used daily by Construction Electricians.

Applicants not moving forward will be informed at this time.

Step 7
Applicants proceeding forward in the process will receive an email outlining next steps to book an
appointment for a personal interview at the JAC office.

Step 8
The applicant will arrive at the JAC office at the specified time they chose and take part in a personal
interview. This will be your opportunity to introduce yourself to us and to demonstrate the essential soft
skills we are looking for.

Step 9
If successful in the interview stage you will be informed by the JAC and are then placed into the selection
pool.

This Intake Process can take between 12 and 16 weeks.

Additional information and instructions will be provided for applicants as the Intake
process moves forward. It is essential that applicants continue to return to the JAC website
regularly for further updates and guidelines.
