One-Day Trip to Kuala Sepetang/Taiping
The Geographical Society of the school is organising a one-day trip to Kuala Sepetang/ Taiping
on Saturday, 20th October. The aim is to create an awareness of the importance of mangrove
swamps. It is open to all members but registration is based on first come, first served. The closing
date is 30th September. Please register with Ms Sally, the Secretary.

The fare for the one-day trip is Rm100 per head. It is inclusive of bus fare, breakfast, lunch and
dinner, boat ride and entrance fees. Please pay upon registration. Fees paid are not refundable but
replacements are accepted. The itinerary includes visits to a charcoal factory, the mangrove
swamps, ‘eagle feeding’, shops that sell products, a biscuits factory and a duck farm. The
departure time is 6.30 a.m. and the assembly points are the School Canteen. The estimated time of
arrival back home is about 9.00 p.m.

Read the email and answer the questions.

Dear Jaden,

I am quite surprised that you have been having a fever for the past few days. With
the incidence of dengue fever on the rise, I hope you will take early precautions about your
fever.

As I know, one of the symptoms of dengue fever is that it will last from three to
seven days. The temperature may rise quickly as high as 40c. There is intense headache
and pain behind the eyes. A person with dengue fever may also experience muscle and
joint pain. His eyes may become reddened. Other symptoms include a loss of appetite with
vomiting and diarrhea. At the serious stage, the victim may experience skin rash and
bleeding, usually from the nose or gums.

If you have any one of these symptoms or in doubt, do not hesitate to see a doctor.
With early or proper treatment, a dengue patient will recover gradually. The disease is
rarely fatal but it is quite troublesome to the person as he has to stay indoors because the
disease is infectious.

Whatever it is, prevention is better than cure. Check the disease at its source by
destroying the breeding ground of Aedes mosquitoes within the house and the compound.
Ensure that the drains are not clogged and there are no receptacles that retain water.

Well, Jaden, hope that your fever will subside. Otherwise medical attention is
urgent.
