Assisted Technology Tools,

Resources and Purposes

• A teacher could use any variety of assistive tools to help students. One
example is a computer. Not that long ago, a word processor was provided
for students who needed help with physical writing. Now, most students
are one-to-one with technology, and they have access to word processing
and any other type of software they might need. Voice to text software is
another example of assistive technology for those students that may lack
the dexterity in their hands to type on a key board.

• It is important to know your students and their needs because it is the job
of the teacher to make sure all the students have everything they need to
achieve. When a teacher knows his or her students, planning and
instruction can become more beneficial, and the student can get the
maximum from being in the class.

• Accommodations do not change the expectations of the student, simply

the methods in which the student is assessed or graded. For example, if a
student needs to have a test read aloud to be successful, that is an
accommodation; however, if a student needs reduced test answers or
reduced content, that changes the expectations for the student.
