I Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

A. describe the forms of Classical music ;


B. compare and contrast the forms of Classical music and its movements; and
C. relate the forms of Classical music to life situations.

II Content: Forms of Classical Music


A. Prior Knowledge
Classical period (1782-1820) is the period dominated by aristocracy. Duke and Dutchess
governed during this period. Classical period is also called the “Age of Reason and
Enlightenment” because this was the time when certain wars happened and ended.
Classicism. There were 3 prominent composers during this period such as Franz Joseph
Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig Van Beethoven.

B. New Knowledge
Some forms of Classical music are: sonata, concerto, and symphony. Sonata came from
the word “sonare” which means to produce sound. Sonata only used one instrument
like piano. Concerto which is a combination of soloist and orchestra. Symphony derived
from the word “sinfonia” which means to produce harmonious sound together.
