In five years after graduating from high school, I would have already received my
bachelor’s degree from a four year college. After receiving my B.S. I would continue my
School of Optometry Professional Program or any other optometry schools in California. I would
have chosen to go to UC Berkeley School of Optometry because after researching more about it,
I found out that Berkeley had designed their curriculums to provide their students a first-rate
clinical training. Also, during the four years that a student attends there, they will have seen up to
Program, I discovered that their optometry students have performed better compared to other
students at different schools on all the three sections of the NBEO (National Board Examiners in
Optometry) examination. The three parts of the exam includes applied basic science, patient
assessment and management, and clinical skills. In the year 2018, Berkeley’s pass rate was a
98.4%, while the national pass rate was a 92.1%. Meaning that the percentage difference was a
6.3%. With this information, I want to attend at this optometry school because of how well the
program makes the students excel. This school has proven to give their students the best
In addition, if I wanted to attend this school after five years, I would have to live in a
campus-run apartment provided by the school if I qualify or in an apartment off campus. In order
to provide for myself financially, I would have to fill out scholarships and/or fill out applications
for financial aid, such as FAFSA. If I also wanted some pocket money or wanted to save up
money, I would need to look for a part time job. There may also be times where I would have to
take out some student loans in order to help me out with school or rent.
Furthermore, I would like to see myself becoming an optometrist because I believe that
the eye anatomy is interesting, which makes me want to learn more about its functions and the
diseases that may occur within the eye. I also want to be able to help treat patients with their eye
health and help them to continue to care for their eyes. I believe that with patience and ambition,
I could achieve my goal of becoming an optometrist after eight years since I would have to get
my B.S. within 4-5 years after high school and then do another 4-5 years of optometry school in
order to become an optometrist. Of course my education doesn’t stop there because I will have a
lot more to learn about understanding the eye and caring for it. I would also have training before
I become an optometrist, but those will only be obstacles in my life that will help benefit me.
Finally, I feel that in order to achieve my goals, I actually have to work for them no
matter what. I know that I will have to endure and persevere as much as I can, so that I can
become an optometrist that knows how to to treat and speak with their patients. I also understand
that I will need to go through a few stages before becoming an optometrist because earning my
B.S. is one stage, while being admitted to an optometry school is another stage. After passing
those stages, I know that I can move forward and work even harder. I hope that in five years after
