For this assignment pretend that you have completed your undergraduate requirements
and want to fill out a First or Initial License Application. This is a portfolio artifact!
Follow the prompts on the checklist, create a document and answer the numbered
questions.

❏ Along the top edge of the CDE home page, find the “Teaching and Learning” link.
Click on it.
❏ Click on the “Educator Licensing” link under the “School and District
Information” section.
❏ Click on the “Apply for or Renew a License or Authorization” link along the left
side.
❏ Click on Teacher first or initial license”, under the License Type: Teacher License.
Answer the following:
1. What is the application fee for a license The Application Fee is
$90.00
2. How long is an initial educator license valid? An initial educator
license is valid for 3 years after issue
3. What 9 items do you need to take care of on the application
checklist? A fingerprint for background check, confirmation of
valid ID, Names of colleges attended, submission of all college
transcripts, Transcripts from colleges outside of the US (If
applicable), Completion of the Approved program form, Results
from CDE, Employment history, and disclosure of legal
documentation of background history.

The application fee is a one time, $90.00 fee, and the initial license tanyard is 3
years once assigned. To complete the application process, you need to bring the

After the application process, future teachers need to take the Praxis exam, the

wanting to teach in Colorado, the minimum praxis score is 167 for english.
Future teachers need to pass an exam specific to one’s state in order to teach
there; for example, I would need to take a Colorado specific exam to teach in Colorado.
Teachers also need to submit all transcripts from every college they attended, all

Future teachers only need to submit a fingerprint once, and instructions for the
fingerprinting are as follows: Schedule an appointment, bring proper documentation,

The government business that proctors these fingerprints are the CBI, fingerprint
scans are available at a IdentoGo office local to you, the fee for this being $19.00.
Getting prints analyzed can take up to two weeks.
