In this chapter, we discovered how IQ is not the end all be all. Many
people have individual strengths, although those strengths may not
be entirely academic. Everyone brings something diverse to the
table

Challenges/Strengths and Contributions of Learners


Intrapersonal - Prefer solo work. They know themselves, deep thinking. May find social working
troubling. They prefer to work by themselves

Linguistic - Good with discussion, papers. Arts and crafts might be hard for this type of learner.

Kinesthetic - Good time with moving events, have a hard time sitting still for elongated periods of
time.

Interpersonal - Communicating things to people. Will enjoy group work. May find solo word difficult.

Logistical Reasoning - Solving problems with patterns and mathematics. May struggle with heartfelt
answers.

Spacial - Seeing things and mapping it 3d. Good at posters. May struggle with 2d’s, reading books.

Naturalist - Plants being outside are something of interest. May struggle with learning indoors.

Musical - Use music to study. May struggle with monotonous activities.

Strategies for teaching the learner / Learning environment needed to be successful


It is important that teachers garner the individual strengths of children or students. They need to play
and adhere to these individual strengths to boost success.

● How has your perception of diverse learners grown/changed from your perspective as a student?
I know that book smarts aren’t the only thing that define individual strength. There are other measures of
intelligence that does not rely on one’s Intelligence Quotient.
● What does this mean for you as a future teacher?
As a future teacher, it is important to adapt to the multiple intelligences of individual learners. Teachers will
strive if they are able to turn a lesson plan for each of the types of learning.
