Long-Term Master Awards: As part of the Australian Government’s increasing engagement in


Africa, Australia Awards in Africa (AAA) offer study opportunities at post-graduate level to
candidates from eligible African countries.
The scholarships are offered at Masters level for up to two years as well as short professional
development courses of up to three months. There are also limited opportunities for PhD studies
in Agriculture-related disciplines.
The scholarships, which are implemented by the Australian Agency for International
Development (AusAID), are part of Australia’s effort to assist African countries realise the
Millennium Development Goals. They also help build institutional and people-to-people
linkages.
Master Awards Applicant Profile
Priority fields will vary depending on the African country you come from but generally include:
Agriculture, Natural Resource and Environmental Management (mining, energy and climate
change, tourism), Public sector management and reforms, Education, Science and Technology
(including special needs education), Health-General, Public Health (including Sanitation and
HIV Management).
Master Awards General Information
Eligible Sectors: Applications may come from applicants employed in the Public Sector; the
Private Sector and non-government organisations (Civil Society).
The AAA targets certain types of applicant. Applicants that meet the following criteria will be
considered Generally:
You are a national of an African country.
You are an early or mid-career professional working in the Public Sector, the Private Sector
or non-government organisation (Civil Society) in one of the listed priority fields of study.
You must not be more than 50 years of age at the date of your application, in some countries,
up to 52 year old individuals can apply.
You must have at least four (4) years’ post-graduation work experience. This work
experience must be in a role relevant to your proposed field of study and to your employment
organisation type (e.g. public sector applicants should demonstrate public sector work
experience, and so on). Preference will be given to candidates with greater periods of
experience.
You possess, as a minimum, a Bachelors degree (or the equivalent) of at least 4 years in
length with a minimum mark of lower second class (2:2) or the equivalent.
You wish to undertake a Masters degree in Australia in one of the listed priority fields of
study.
You have a clear vision for how you will use the knowledge gained through the Masters
degree to improve policy, practice or education in the proposed field of study.

You should submit your fully complete Preliminary Application Form (PAF) along with all
supporting documents.
