Pride Essay

My biggest accomplishment I did during my high school years was getting m seal of

biliteracy award. I got this award my junior year of high school and I still bring it up till this day.

Being bilingual means so much to me because it is my culture, it is how I was raised and being

able to represent spanish speakers gives me so much pride. Around the month of October 2017

my spanish teacher Miss Alvarez signed me up for the Seal of biliteracy The first round was

making sure that I was qualified to get the seal which was the easiest round. The second round

was writing the English autobiography, this we had a couple of weeks to complete and I passed

to the third round. On February 7th I was super sick a few days before I had a massive headache

I had the flu and I was a mess but I still wrote the spanish essay in the morning with Mr.

Sebastian I really thought I wasn't going to pass it because I was so sick and I was coughing but

I pulled through and I made it to the fourth and final round.

The final round was to have a interview in English and in Spanish, the event was in

Gateway Gardens in Merced and I nailed the English interview with two teachers for Merced

High. The spanish interview I did a little bad even though my spanish teacher was my

interviewer but i pulled through and got my sealed biliteracy. I got the notification on March 9th

2018 and I got my award on March 20th at Atwater High School and it was a true blessing. With

this award I can put on my resume and will help my career. My family was there to support me

and I really think that having this award change my view on spanish because I would always

think of it as a language but I really know that there is the culture behind it and I'm so glad that I

am Mexican. I think that this award really shows my capabilities and creativity and even though

I had a few bumps in the road learning spanish I'm glad and proud to be a spanish speaker.
