My name is Delainey Conger and I am applying for a position as a private tutor/instructor

within your company. As having been the drum captain and conductor of my school for the past

two years, I have gained countless hours of experience instructing from large groups to individuals

in musical execution. This includes spending the time necessary to properly break down trouble

spots in our respective pieces and further instruct to improve the more isolated product; this

requires knowledge and problem solving skills alike. On another note, while I have informally

tutored my peers in mathematics literally since the second grade, beginning as my teacher had

asked me to do so, I have formally been tutoring a seventh grader with learning disabilities here in

Merced since November of 2018 and will continue to do so until I move to Berkeley in August.

Since I’ve began tutoring, my student has gone from achieving a low ‘C’ average to that of an ‘A’.

Our biweekly sessions consist of review as well as initial introduction of concepts, which with

doing so require, again, problem-solving on my part to understand how the student’s mind works,

and work with those pathways of understanding and/or coax them to possibly veer in an alternate

route if they are so rocky. Through this, my student and I have formed a comfortable yet still

formal relationship in which allows him to honestly ask questions without such excessive

apprehension, just as between myself and the peers in drumline and band alike in which I lead.

Through leading in these extracurricular settings, I have gained not just immense skills in

problem-solving, but in communication as well. Apt communication is extremely vital in mentoring

others, as without it the instructor cannot understand how to teach the subject at hand,

consequently leaving the student just as clueless as to what it is that is being taught. In the bigger

picture however is the general development of our students; good communicative mentors not only

develop these hard skills which they are attending for, but maybe even more importantly those soft

ones which allow humanity to thrive together.

As a well-practiced leader and communicator, I am confident that I would be an excellent

addition to your company in order to make a change in young people’s lives, who truly are our

future.

Thank you for your consideration,

Delainey Conger
