Children are particularly susceptible to developing rheumatic fever and subsequent heart damage after strep infections if they do not receive proper treatment with antibiotics. Nurses play an important role in educating families about rheumatic fever and heart disease prevention through proper treatment of strep throat and regular follow up care.
