Introduction

Pupils’ behavior is varying inside the classroom. We find positive

and negative behaviors in the classroom. Pupils are unique in many
aspects of learning. Each teacher should be able to know their
behavior from the very beginning on. Their behaviors and attitudes
in studying have great impact on their school success.

ATTENTIVENESS

Some of the pupils are always attentive. They are

concentrated in the lessons independent of the actual subject.
There are two types of “attentive” learner. The most attentive
pupils are really following the lesson and understand the actual
lessons without major problems. The rest of the “attentive ” pupils
pretend to understand what is going on but when they are asked
something they show that their attentiveness was pretended only to
please the teacher or to leave an overall positive impression. They
may be physically present but are mentally absent.
Mostly inattentive learners are not able to answer questions from
the teacher. But there are also some pupils who are not paying
attention but can simply understand the lesson well due to their
high intelligence.

INTEREST

Usually some of the pupils are very interested in the lessons.

They are open to learn new things and they will try everything to
cooperate with the teacher. They will ask questions if necessary and
help the teacher this way to find out how successful the teaching is.
Due to their interest these active students are mostly able to catch
up ideas easily. This interest can be increased if a teacher is able to
deliver the subject in an attractive way.
COOPERATIVENESS

Not all pupils are same cooperative. Some are more extroverted and
love to join a discussion. Mostly they are willing to share their ideas
and opinions with other members in a group. They naturally enjoy
group activities, and they are ready to support the teacher ’s work if
there is a need.
Some pupils are not able to show a comparable
cooperativeness because they are too shy, other pupils may have
made some bad experience before when they were cooperative.
These pupils can be very successful nevertheless. For the teacher
they are a challenge as he normally likes to integrate all the pupils
in a class the same way.

ACTIVENESS

Usually teachers love active pupils. It is more fun to teach active

pupils and you get easier a feedback. If pupils are too active they
may disturb the lesson and get unwelcome this way. But generally
active pupils are more appreciated.
If pupils show no or little activity they can easily be suspected to be
lazy or uninterested. Sometimes it is not easy for a teacher to find
out if laziness and lack of interest is the reason for this inactivity or
if a pupils is simply too shy or introverted to play a more active role
in the class.

Statement of the Problem

The study investigated on the Classroom Behaviours and Study
Habits: A way to Academic Development of Grade I Pupils in Danatag
Elementary School. Specifically the study answered the following
questions:

1. What are the behaviors of the pupils in the classroom?

2. How do the different factors affect the pupils behavior in the
classroom?
2a. parent
2b. teacher
2c. environment
2d. personal motivation
3. Why do the pupils behave like that in the classroom?
4. What is the study habit of the pupils?
Hypotheses
1. There are positive and negative behaviors of the pupils in the
classroom.
2.a. The parent can push the pupils with all their support in their
studies.

2b. The teacher can improve his teaching strategy and he can
promote the interest of the pupils in his lessons.
2 c.The environment can make pressure to the pupils to behave
in the same way they want him to be.
2d.The personal or self-motivation of the pupils himself can
affect him to behave in a way he wanted to be.
2. Pupils behave differently because of the factors which are
presented in the study.
3. If they have a positive behavior they should be appreciated
and if they have a negative behavior they must be reinforced
and pushed to do well in the classroom.
Significance of the Study

This study will guide them on how to adjust and resolve

behavioral problems of the pupils inside the classroom especially
during classroom instruction.
Teachers. They will be able to find out their pupils behavior
inside the classroom and address the needs of every pupils who has
poor study habits.
Parents. They have the authority for their child to guide and
push them to become a good pupil. They can lead their children to
behave according to the norms in the society.
Pupils. They will know their different behaviors inside the
classroom and they can improve them. They can also improve their
study habits and will become successful in school.
School Administrators. Through this study they will know how to
handle bad behaviors of the pupils and they can be able to guide the
pupils whenever there are problems happening.
For future researchers. They can use this study as reference.
They can get some information and lead them to a successful study.

Scope and Limitations

The study covers the selected pupils in Danatag Elementary
School.
The variables in the study are limited to the pupils in Danatag
Elementary School because this is the school where I assigned to
teach. In spite of the ongoing construction of the building, poor
school facilities I want to know how they react in this environment
where they belong right now.
Their different behaviors will be determined through the checklist
they are going to fill out.

Definition of Terms
For the better understanding of the discussion that follows, the
following terms are defined operationally.
 Student’ s behavior- this refers to the positive or negative
behavior of the student in the classroom.
 Academic grade- this refers to the grade the student got from
his midterm exam. This is the basis for his academic
performance relating to his behavior.
 Family- is the basic unit of the society and it is where the
student first learn the proper conducts and behaviors.
