Kristallnacht

Description: Also known as the “Night of Broken Glass”, this scandal severely affected Jews
by causing destruction to many Jewish-owned buildings. Nazis completely destroyed
hundreds of Jewish homes, synagogues, and businesses across Germany. About 100 Jews
were killed and 30000 were injured.
Ghettos (Warsaw, Poland)

Description: Established on October 12, 1940, it was the largest ghetto in both population
and area. It held more than 350,000 Jews (30% of the city’s population) in just 2.4 percent of
the city’s total area.
Dachau Camps

Description: First opened in 1933, this was the first concentration camp created in Germany.
Dachau camps became more than over 100 sub-camps that were mainly used for making
Jews work vigorously.
Auschwitz

Description: The complex, composed of three camps—Auschwitz I (April 1940),

Auschwitz-Birkenau (October 1941), and Auschwitz-Monowitz (October 1942)—forced the
Jews into labor. Though each camp used methods such as the SS Squadron to kill the Jews,
Auschwitz-Birkenau, when established, became what is known as the killing center. Close to
1.1 million Jews were sent to this complex and of which 960,000 of them died.
