History of tephones

(mobile phones)

Before the invention of electromagnetic telephone, the earliest experiments about

speech-transmitting devices, were those conducted by the British physicist
and polymath Robert Hooke (from 1664 to 1685). …

From 1664 to 1665 Hooke experimented with sound transmission through a taut
distended wire.

For a while, until the electrical telephone was invented, people were using a tin can
telephone. This device was made up of two tin cans (or paper cups) attached to either
end of a taunt string or wire. The sound was transmitted by mechanical vibrations along
the wire. The wire had to be stretched out.

Of course, there where other devices used to communicate like the electrical
telegraph(until the first real electrical telephone was invented).

Invention of the telephone

First practical telephone 1876

The modern telephone is the result of work of many people. Alexander Graham
Bell was, however, the first person who invented a practical telephone in 1876.

The first ever telephone appeared one year later, in Wisconsin(US).Soon people
installed this device in their homes.
Over the years, different types of telephones were introduced, like The Wall
Telephone, Candlestick telephone.

Theese types of telephones featured a mouth piece (transmitter) mounted at the top
of the stand, and a receiver (ear phone) that was held by the user to the ear during a
Only in ‘30 (the thirties -1930) the telephones become more compact ; that featured
a handset with receiver and transmitter elements in one unit, having a rotary
dial making the use of a telephone more convenient.

Even though this telephone was simple to use, people were still using the candlestick
telephones until 1950s.

In 1964 the dial was replaced by push buttons .

History of mobile phones
In 1973, Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive, made
the first mobile telephone call to his rival. The prototype handheld phone
used by Dr. Cooper weighed 1.1 kilograms (2.4 lb) and measured 23 by 13
by 4.5 centimetres. The prototype offered a talk time of just 30 minutes and
took 10 hours to re-charge.

In 1998 the first phone with a color

display was made.
