Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have
taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic
achievement?

The most significant challenge that I have faced is taking advanced classes
and working at the same time. This was a challenge to me because I had to take
responsibility in making time for both. I remember having 8 hour shifts on the
weekends and still having to come home to study for my AP courses and other
classes. It was a challenge taking a college class every Monday and Wednesday
after school for my junior year. The steps I took in order to overcome this
challenge is by completing my assignments a few days before the due date.
Working and studying at the same time affected my academic achievement in a
good way because it introduced me into the business industry. This significant
challenge affected different aspects of my life because it helped me get money in
order to help my parents with the bills and buy needs. I would say this experience
has affected my time being with family and friends because my schedule now is so
busy.
Coming from a hardworking family and having money be an issue, I knew I
would have to start working at an early age. It was difficult because I didn’t want
my grades to go down and at the same time I didn’t want to call off work because I
knew I needed the money. The good thing about my job is that they were flexible
with my schedule. I was able to overcome the challenge with my job and going to
school at the same time. After working in McDonalds for a year and a couple
months, it became less stressful. I learned to stay organized with my schedule
because there was never enough time in the day to do everything with a job and
going to school.
I gained multi-tasking and communicating skills from my job experience.
Having to do both of these tasks at the same time showed me that I am capable of
overcoming such obstacles. Overall, this challenge affected my academic
achievement by taking some of my time away from studying but still helped me
gather some money to help out my family.
