Assignment 3 : The Recording Studio: “Vintage to Modern”

You are going to research and then write a report about the development of recording
equipment & studio practices from 1940’s to the present day. You must include a
bibliography for references that you use in your research and refer to these in your
report.

In your report, you must include details of the following outcomes:


1) analyse and evaluate previous and current recording formats.
2) analyse and evaluate the development and use of different mixing desks for recording.

You will be expected to discuss the following:


 What are the advantages of Modern digital recording?
 List possible advantages for embracing classic Analogue recording techniques
 Although studio processes & techniques have improved radically over the past
decades, why do we still find early recordings of the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s so exciting &
inspiring today?

N.B. In line with BTEC assessment policy there cannot be any further attempt to
amend your work after the summative deadline date, 3 rd April 2014. Late work will not
be accepted.
