Tingo María es una ciudad del centro norte del Perú, Capital
del distrito de Rupa Rupa y
capital de la provincia de Leoncio Prado en la Región de
Huánuco, Reserva de su entorno la

como las zonas arqueológicas y parajes.

Existen varias versiones sobre el origen del nombre de la

TINGO proviene de la palabra quechua TINCCO que significa
encuentro, el cual hace
referencia a la unión de los rios Monzon y Huallaga que se
unen a la altura del Puente Corpac.
Para el nombre de MARIA hay una referencia que existe una
pobladora que vivía en el
margen de la union de estos rios, esta pobladora atendia a
las personas que transitaban por los
Afluentes del rio Huallaga, brindandoles hospedaje y
alimentación. Otras versiones afirman que se
encontrando en ese lugar una mujer ahogada y cuyo
nombre era MARIA.
Las festividades más importantes de tingo maria es la fiesta
de San Juan. En la calle bailan alrededor de fogatas Los
tulumayos con conjuntos típicos. Al amanecer hay un baile
de pandilla en donde la gente baila alrededor de un árbol.
Durante el día, la gente acude a las playas de los ríos para
celebrar, organizaciones y ferias artesanales. Todos
degustan del "Juane" ese día. La otra festividad es el 15 de
octubre y el aniversario de Tingo María.
En Tingo María como en casi toda la amazonia peruana, se
encuentra una gran variedad de platos típicos y bebidas, un
gran prestigio nacional, una buena preparación, los sabores
agradables, los ingredientes que se usan y el exótico de
estos . Entre los potajes tradicionales son; Juane de gallina
un plato tradicional en las fiestas de San Juan que se
preparó una base de arroz, gallina, aceitunas y huevos; El
cual se envuelve en una hoja llamada bijao. Tacacho con
cecina: plátano frito y machacado con un poco de sal que se
mezcla con manteca de chancho, por lo general se sirve
acompañado de cecina, que es la carne de cerdo seca y
ahumada.
Entre las Bebidas típicas de tingo maria es La Aguajina
(refresco a base de Aguaje), El Chapo (refresco a base de
platanos maduros), La Cocona, Carambola. Las Bebidas
medicinales tenemos; Chuchuhuasi, Uña de Gato, Camu
Camu, Siete Raíces, Sangre de grado.
