In order to increase the quality of the students of Samarinda State

Polytechnic, every student is required to do internship for the application of
working practices that had been done in learning activities in college.

 CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A. Background
Based on Government Regulation No.2 of 1989 about the Education and
Government Regulation No.30 of 1990 Regarding the Higher Education
stated that there are 2 (two) lines of education in Indonesia, namely academic
and profesional path. In the academic track that is the development of science,
in general, is covering pure sciences such as mathematics, physics, and so on.
While on the prossional path that is the ultímate goal of education, graduates
can do the job (skilled) in the discipline of science each of which is prepared
as a ready-made power.
Polytechnic is one of the professional educational paths with the same
emphasis versus the large proportion of the curriculum of practice with
theory. This is due to the students after graduation is expected to be ready to
work, but it was realized that although the portion of practice was great, the
student still needed the actual field experience. It is intended as a stock of
knowledge that does not require special training or adjustment that is too long
if they have graduated later. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to do an
Internship Program. In connection with the process of an internship, it is
necessary cooperation of companies and government agencies (which later as
a graduate of the Polytechnic) to accommodate students of the S1-Applied
program that will carry out an internship. It is recognized, that the placement
of students at work in accordance with the discipline of science is an obstacle
prone, and secrets for a company or agency. For it should be noted that the
purpose of the internship is solely to train students to work and learn the
corporate world or government agencies where they practice and train
students to know the condition of the real working world.
Department of chemical engineering is a place which contain the
development of the emerging science and to meet the needs of experts and
skilled in managing production systems or systems of the chemical industry,
which involves the human components, materials, and machinery/production
 facilities. World industries and colleges are one interconnected unity. The
relationship is often referred to as partnerships. A student who studies,
particularly students in engineering majors need to understand the real
conditions that exist in the industrialized world. Students have to not only
understand the theory and practice of conducting in college only but also need
to understand the true condition of the company. Technological change and
the acceleration of information have influenced aspects of the production
process in the company. With the role of the universities, as research and
development are expected to answer the challenge in those changes.
Through the internship program at the firm, S1-Applied program students
are expected to find problems, which will then be analyzed, handled, and
addressed appropriately. How this is done by giving students the opportunity
to jump in and discover the reality and the problems that exist in the field
/industry.
Considering this, I choose the PT PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM is
located my internship place. I would like to explore the chemical industrial
process system that exists inside of this, in accordance with the course that I
take and my educational background i.e. Chemical Industry Technology
Studies Program Department of chemical engineering at Samarinda State
Polytechnic
B. Purpose
As for the purpose of the internship for Undergraduate course students are as
follows:
1. Enhance the ability of the students against the real condition of the
company.
2. Add insight into the processes of the chemical industry that was briefly
engaged with a technique that has been studied in the college.
3. being able to identify the existing problems in the industry with plunging
directly into the factory.
4. Capable of delivering the right solutions and handling to problems that
exist in the industry
C. Uses
For Students
1. Obtain practical work experience and know more the relevance of Science
received during college, in which theory and practice are obtained can be
applied in a real situation in the field/industry.
2. Apply the disciplines that have acquired and owned both inside and outside
the campus.
3. Expand the insights, knowledge, and deepening before entering into the
field. As well as be able to measure the ability of self in the face of technical
problems, especially in the working environment.
4. learning to diverse is steeped in the science of chemical engineering that
deals directly with the field and deployment in the field.

For Companies
1. Help accomplish tasks and the daily work in the company place of
internship.
2. The means to bridge the relations of cooperation between the companies
with State Polytechnic Samarinda, particularly concerning the recruitment
of labor.
3. Means of imaging companies especially in the scope of student program S1-
applied chemical engineering majors of Samarinda State Polytechnic.

For Samarinda State Polytechnic

1. Put to evaluate the extent of Chemical Engineering students understand and
practice what has been practiced in the college to be applied or used in the
company.
2. Print a skilled workforce, creative, dynamic, professional, honest, and
responsible to do a job.
3. Means imaging Samarinda State Polytechnic campus in the corporate
environment and develop cooperation with a company to potentially
facilitate internships Polytechnic graduates in finding jobs.
 CHAPTER II
CONTENTS

MAHAKAM, which is located on Jl. Yos Sudarso, Jl. Karang Jati No. 1,
Mekar Sari, Central Balikpapan in East Kalimantan province

Timing of the internship tailored to Samarinda State Polytechnic
Academic Calendar which will be held on:

Duration : 4-6 months
Date : February 10, 2020 - August 31, 2020

3. The method of Internship

Methods used in this internship is:
a. Participation, i.e., to participate in the activities/activity in the field of
study chemical engineering at the company.
b. observation, namely regarding work mechanism directly at the chemical
industry Process and Analysis Laboratory in the field of study chemical
engineering company.
4. Strategy Implementation Internship
As for the strategies that will be undertaken during the implementation of the
internship is:
a. master and equip students with the field of study that will be examined
during the execution of the internship.
b. Reproduce literature-literature needed as a source of reference in the
implementation of good practice as well as in the manufacture of its report.
c. Consult on matters that are not understood during the execution of an
apprentice to the supervising staff
5. The role of the Students in the implementation of the internship
Students act as subjects who perform internships while also contributing in
the form of assistance to parties in implementing the company's internal
activity of the company, having regard to the provisions set by the company.

6. Results to be Achieved
Results to be achieved in the activities of this internship is the increased
quality of the skill of the students in the academic field that is not only based
on the theory of the course but also the shape of the application in the form
of practice. In addition, it also adds insightful work that can be used as a
cornerstone in prospect future i.e. After entering the world of work.
