CLASS VIII – HOLIDAY HOMEWORK (2019-20)
ENGLISH
1. Read any one of the following:
*The Secret Garden *The Boy in the striped pyjamas *Anne of Green Gables
*Robinson Crusoe *Pride and Prejudice *A Christmas Carol
a) Summarize the story from the perspective of any one of the characters from the novel (400-600 words).
b) Make an attractive book cover.
2. Do you believe in ghosts? Give your perspective on believing them. Also write an imaginative encounter in
150-200 words with a supernatural / extra-terrestrial being.
3. Interview your parents and grandparents to find out about the things / activities they used to do when they were
your age. Tabulate the activities which no longer exist. Such as leisure time activities, games, customs practices,
work done etc. (minimum 10 activities). Make it interesting. Your interview must have a lot of details for the readers
to understand the yesteryears clearly.
MATHEMATICS
Project or research analysis play an important role in developing various skills in early stage of education. So the
student should prepare a project on any one of these topics during holidays.
(i) Centres of a triangle (centroid, circumcentre, orthocenter, incentre); (ii) Application of Coordinate Geometry;
(iii) To find various number patterns in nature such as Fibonacci sequence / Golden ratio.; (iv) Algebraic identities
/ factorization of a polynomial; (v) Number Games; (vi) Polyhedrons and verification of Euler’s formula for
polyhedrons; (vii) Pascal’s triangle; (viii) Puzzles; (ix) Volume of 3-D shapes; (x) Mathematics made easy (use
some interesting tricks to make calculation easier); (xi) Frustum of cone; (xii) Square roots of natural numbers using
geoboard; (xiii) Unit of circle; (xiv) Cyclic quadrilaterals.
SCIENCE
Make a working model on any one topic given below (Only biodegradable material to be used).
Topics – Food and Technology, Energy, Communication, Universe, Human Welfare, Teaching Aids, Science and
Technology, Robotics, Sustainable Development, Environment, Agriculture, Transport, Artificial Intelligence,
Waste Management.
[Student should collect information and material for the chosen project and make the project in summer vacations
along with the project report (file).]
