Essential Question

“How do School Social Workers Help Students?”

Project/Showcase Description:

Presentation: Introduce myself and explain the topic.

Hands-on: I will be having scenarios of common situations we students face. With those
scenarios i’d have my judges play the role of a School Social Worker and make up plans for
the student’s provided in the scenarios.

End: I will have Stress-Kits for my judges and explain why I got them.
1. What personal interest do you have in this topic? Why have you chosen this topic for
your Senior Project/Showcase?​ I chose School Social Worker for my topic because
Social Workers have different roles in schools. I’d like to help either elementary
students or high school students. It interests me because social workers have
many benefits for their field. You’re able to work in hospitals, clinics, churches,
schools, and more. Also, I’ve had a personal experience that impacted me into
wanting to help kids.

2. What research questions will you seek to answer? What kinds of sources might you
look for?​ School Social Work help in many ways so I came up with, “How do
School Social Workers Help Students?” That being said, i’d have to research
questions on their specific roles and how they’re helpful in the school and with
the students.

3. Who is a person (specifically, or in general) with experience or expertise in this field you
might interview? What understanding do you hope to gain from this person?​ I’d like to
interview a local School Social Worker so I was thinking of Karen Gallardo, the
School Social Worker. I hope to understand the inner job of this position.

4. What situations, events, or places could you observe or experience to gain insight into
your topic?​ I could observe the ECC and around me. Also, I can also observe the
way Gallardo works around us. I’d see how everything connects around us.

5. What challenges might you encounter with your research or project? What assistance or
tools will you need to overcome them? ​Honestly the hands-on seems to be the most
difficult of all. I’d have to ask around and ask what their plan could be and this
one seems the most difficult.
6. What other questions or concerns do you have about your Senior Capstone Project at
this time? ​My concerns are on my hands-on. I want it to be creative and
interesting.
