PLANNING OVERVIEW – TERM 3
Year Level Unit Title Salvation Topic Aspect of Human Development
6 6.3 Confirmation Confirmation God created people with a body and
soul
Overview – explanation of the content of the unit and how it explores the Salvation Topic and development of the Human Person

Over the course of the 5 weeks students will be immersed within the Religious Education unit of Confirmation. Students will engage in meaningful and
integrated learning experiences which activate their prior knowledge and develop new understandings and wonder about God’s creation of people with a
body and a soul, who can be guided by the Holy Spirit to do good in their life. This unit is to prepare those who will be taking part in the Sacrament of
Confirmation.

Students begin by exploring why God made all people with a body and a soul, whereby the soul helps people to be loving and good, reflecting God. They
will identify and explore holiness and what makes certain people Holy, such as Saints. Students will learn of the promise of the Holy Spirit Jesus made to his
followers at Pentecost to help guide them throughout their life and to be committed to God.

Students will learn about, receive and take part in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Students will understand each of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in depth and
able to apply their knowledge to contemporary society. They will understand that the gifts of the Holy Spirit they received in Baptism are strengthened
through in the Sacrament of Confirmation to guide them to act, speak and think as Jesus taught and give strength to them in times of hardship.

Catholic World View and Teacher Witness

Teacher witness: I have taken part in the Sacrament of Confirmation when I was in primary school and my chosen Saint was Saint Bernadette. She was
also my mother’s chosen saint name. I remember researching about her life and despite being in constant sickness and pain she made effort to do acts of
kindness and love and demonstrate her strength. For my Confirmation we wore sashes with our saints name.
The Holy Spirit has helped guide me into teaching others and caring for others as part of my daily vocation. I believe that I have been called to use the gifts
of the holy spirit to teach and support others, students in their learning and development of faith understanding.
There have been times when family members have been very sick and I have had to pray for the Holy Spirit to help me through the tough times, and help
my family to do so too.
Catholic World view: As people of God we are called to use our gifts and talents for the good of others to reflect God. Through peoples actions, words
and thoughts they can reflect the influence of God.
