WHAT IS CYBERBULLYING???

Cyberbullying is as an aggressive, intentional act


distributed by an individual or group, using contact in
an electronic medium, continuously and relentlessly
against someone who cannot stand up for himself or
herself easily.

Impersonating someone - cat-fishing, fake profiles and fraping
Outing and dissing
Trolling
Subtweeting
Happy Slapping - Participating in video shaming
Creating websites, blogs and polls

According to Cyber bullying statistics from the i-SAFE foundation:
Over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the
same number have engaged in cyber bullying.
More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyberthreats online.
Over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly
through their cell phones or the Internet.
Well over half of young people do not tell their parents when cyber bullying
occurs.
The Hartford County Examiner reported similarly concerning cyber bullying statistics:
Only 1 in 10 teens tells a parent if they have been a cyber bully victim
Fewer than 1 in 5 cyber bullying incidents are reported to law enforcement
1 in 10 adolescents or teens have had embarrassing or damaging pictures
taken of themselves without their permission, often using cell phone
cameras
About 1 in 5 teens have posted or sent sexually suggestive or nude
pictures of themselves to other

According to Pacific Daily News (Oct. 4, 2018)
Girls are more likely than boys and middle schoolers are more
likely than high schoolers to be the subject of online
harassment.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In
2017, 16.3% of female and 10% of male high school students in
Guam reported being electronically bullied (through texting,
Instagram, Facebook or other forms of social media). In 2016,
29.2% of female and 14.3% of male middle school students said
the same.
Over half (55.2%) of LGBTQ+ students have experienced it, and
61% of overweight teens have reported being bullied online.

"Cyberbullying" means the use of any electronic
communication device to harass, intimidate or bully.
The Guam Education Board has the authority to adopt
school policy that prohibits Cyber bullying.
Public schools are required to form "bullying" and
"cyberbullying" prevention task forces; implement
prevention, intervention, and remediation programs;
and explore other initiatives that involve the school
community, law enforcement, assistance
organizations, and community members. School
community is defined as parents or guardians, pupils,
teachers, staff, and administrators.

How Kids Can Protect Themselves

Think about what they post.

Think about who sees their posts.

Keep their passwords a secret.

Talk to an adult they trust about any messages they


get or things they see online that make them sad or
scared.

Don't share anything that could hurt or embarrass anyone.

Stand up for others.

Report the bullying if they see it.

Talk to your child if you suspect they are being bullied

Tell your child they are loved and you will protect them

Contact the child's school to see if bullying is
