Promotion - Graduation

Students enrolled in this 4-Years plus an Optional Foundation Year program, earn a Bachelor
of Arts in Police Management. This program will equip students with the theoretical,
technical and empirical background necessary for the fight against crime and how to effectively
manage a security unit. The program will develop critical appreciation of the relationship
between the individual and social aspects of crime and victimization and the police
response to these issues. The program will utilize a variety of teaching and learning
techniques in order to develop a range of transferable academic and practical skills. This
programme has been designed for students intending to pursue a career in law enforcement
agencies in public and private sectors. This program consists of forty (40) courses and it
requires a minimum of 240 ECTS credits and pass mark is 50%.

The aims and objectives of the program are:

• To define the theoretical, technical and empirical background of policing and criminology
necessary for the fight against crime and how to effectively manage efficiently
a security unit.

• To outline the principles which influence responses to crime both in theory and in
practice, including restorative justice programmes as well as the punitive measures
at the disposal of the legal system.

• To examine the social, historical, cultural and political contexts in which crimes
are committed and constructed and in which policy responses to offenders and victims
are produced.

• To integrate critical thinking on social, police, criminology and other the related fields.

• To evaluate and apply practical research skills and undertake independent research
project work in the field of policing and criminology.

• To validate the student’s analytical, decision-making and communication competencies

together with those qualities of self-reliance, responsibility, integrity and
self awareness which will promote personal achievement and contribution
to law enforcement

This course is an introduction to criminology,
which includes definitions, historical perspectives
and the effects of crime on society.
CRM103 HATE CRIMES
The purpose of this course is to examine the
causes, manifestations, and consequences of hate
crimes, as well as the larger social context within
which they occur and get reacted to in both legal
and extra-legal ways.
CRM102 INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE
The course provides an introduction to the core of
American criminal justice system with a focus to
the Cyprus criminal justice system. Students will
first examine the nature of crime in America and
then examine the potential causes of crime.
CRM 120 PRIVATE SECURITY
This course is a comparative examination of the
relationship of the criminal justice system to
business and industrial security. It also provides an
overview of the administrative, personnel, and
physical aspects of the security field.
MTH121 STATISTICS I
To be introduced to basic probability and statistics
concepts and techniques. Also be able to apply
these techniques in Police management problems.
This course will cover the trends and develop-
ments in all elements of modern correctional
systems for treatment of juvenile and adult
offenders.
CRM201 JUVENILE DELINQUENCY
This course will cover the history and philosophy
of juvenile justice in America and Cyprus as well as
the impact of present societal reforms on the
juvenile system. A wide array of theoretical
positions will be discussed and debated (e.g. social
structure theories, social process theories, social
reaction theories, etc.).
MAR101 INTRODUCTION TO MARKETING
An introductory course designed to explore the
marketing mix ingredients. Emphasis is also placed,
on the analysis of the external factors of the
business environment that influence marketing
decisions.

This course is a general survey of the European
History.
CRM205 CRIMINAL EVIDENCE
This course provides students with an understanding
of the processes and actors operating through out
the course of a criminal investigation from the
crime scene it self, to the collection and analysis of
evidence, its interpretation and eventual presen-
tation in a courtroom.
MGT323 INTRODUCTION TO MANAGEMENT
The course aims to examine the basis of Global
Management theory and practice, its evolution
and underlying nature. It introduces the student
to the basic managerial functions of planning,
organizing, and staffing, leading and controlling
of the contemporary, global environment.

CRM235 ADDICTIONS AND CRIME
Why do people take drugs? Why and how does
society attempt to control drug use and distribution,
alcohol and gambling? What are the relationships
between addictions and crime? Exploring questions
such as these will be central concerns in Addictions
and Crime course.
CRM 210 ETHICS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE
This course is an intense examination of the
ethical considerations facing the criminal justice
practitioner. Topics include determining moral
behavior, developing moral and ethical behavior,
ethics and law enforcement, ethics and the courts,
ethics and corrections, the ethics of punishment,
policy and management issues, professionalism,
pride and ethics for practitioners.
PSY101 BASIC PSYCHOLOGY
A general survey on fundamental psychological
principles and concepts derived from the application
of the scientific method to the study of behavior,
with special emphasis on the application of such
principles in everyday concerns such as work,
human relations, mental health, social and
environmental interests, consumer concerns, and
education.
CRM 314 CRIME, MEDIA AND CULTURE
This course examines the interrelationships
between crime, criminal justice, and mass media.
It will explore the history of these linkages, the
social science research, and the current issues
relative to crime and mass media. The course
examines the depictions of victims, offenders, and
the criminal justice system in the media. The
evolution of these depictions in print media,
popular literature, films, television, and popular
music will be discussed. The possible impact of
media images of crime and violence on individuals,
groups, and public policy will be considered. Issues
regarding the future of crime, criminal justice, and
mass media also will be discussed.
ENG: 302 ADVANCED ENGLISH
Through a variety of motivating and thought
provoking authentic materials, students develop
skills to improve their ability to read native
speaker texts, understand extended spoken
discourse.
CRM313 INTERNET AND CRIME
This course is designed to provide students with
an overview of the legal, social and technical
impact of global “cybercrime”. Cybercrimes are
facilitated through the use of computers or other
technology devices, when they are connected to
the internet.

This course is the study of transnational security
issues which have global implications such as war,
terrorism, crime, conflicts, population movements,
famine, disease, poverty, natural disasters and
accidents.

true today where the law encroaches on every

This course provides an overview of the various
methods of crime prevention, including terrorism.
Related topics include target identification, target
protection techniques, and information assimilation

Students will gain a basic understanding of
various interviewing techniques and styles.
Individual approach to interview preparation,
completion, and documentation will be reviewed.

To emphasize the great importance of human
