held together by cement .However, modern technology proves that aggregates exhibits chemical bond
at the interface of aggregate and paste. Aggregate is such an important matter in concrete that almost
all the main properties of concrete are directly changed with the properties of aggregate. Moreover,
workability of concrete is straightly affected by aggregate. Overall, mechanical properties of concrete
depends on the certain properties of aggregates like
Aggregate selection is very vital for any sort of test as it will have a major role to play in helping the
material to gain strength. Fineness module of the aggregate and specific weight is taken into account. In
addition to this, although two fine aggregate samples have same fineness module, they may have
various size distribution and surface properties. Properties such as shape, size, texture and fine material
rate of crushed aggregates are more complicated than natural aggregate. Thus, aggregate selection is
very vital.
Researches show that, natural aggregates are tended to be round shaped under the erosion effect of
nature. In spite of this, crushed aggregate are angular but every crushed aggregate doesn’t have the
same angularity.
Roundness is the outline of the particle and it may be measured in term of convexity where angularity
indicates the sharpness of the edges and corners.
Emulsified asphalt ability to coat an aggregate is usually sensitive to the pre-mix water content of the
aggregate. This is mainly true for the aggregates containing a high percentage of materal passing a 75um
(No. 200) sieve, where insufficient premixing water results in balling of asphalt with the fine and
insufficient coating.
Material Selection:
Aggregates will be taken from different parts of China.
TEST
Sieve Analysis (Fine & Course Aggregate)
Methodology:
In the first phase testing of mechanical properties of cement, sand, bitumen and aggregates were
determined. Afterward Marshall specimen prepared using different aggregates were investigated to
access the effect of aggregates.
