SpringBoard is an interactive text that students can write in, highlight, annotate, and make their
own. Students own their work and their learning – like they would a college text. This is not
possible with a traditional core textbook. Novels, DVD film clips, and other media are widely
used and integrated into the program to spark student thinking as well as foster media literacy.

The College Board developed SpringBoard as a Pre‐AP program for grades six to 12 in English
Language Arts, based on the College Board Standards for College Success. SpringBoard is a
research‐based program designed to prepare students for AP and college success through
integrated instructional materials, formative assessments and sustained professional
development.

?
The College Board has back mapped, from AP courses and college‐level work, the skills and
knowledge students need to be successful in preparing for college. SpringBoard provides
alignment of these skills starting in grade six, scaffolding them each year to ensure ALL
students are prepared for the rigorous courses required of today’s students. SpringBoard was
developed using the Understanding by Design model, employing proven strategies to enable
students to “think deeply” and take personal responsibility for their learning. This students will
have access to an online version!

Dear Parents and Guardians:

You know your child better than anyone else. Your perspective and
perception of your child is valuable and I would like to hear from you!
The more I know about your child, the better teacher I can be for
them.

If you would so kindly participate in a short homework assignment, I

would be very appreciative. Please write me a letter about your
child. You may want to include some likes, dislikes, academic
strengths, and weaknesses. Feel free to write as much as you please.
If there is anything additional you would like me to know about your
child or how I may help him or her best, feel free to share! Lastly,
what are YOUR expectations for this school year from the teacher,
your child, and Community House Middle?

I look forward to learning about your child and helping them progress
not only in Language Arts, but in becoming an effective member of
society. Thank you for teaming up to become a partner in your
child’s education! All information shared with me will remain
confidential. Any additional concerns or questions can be directed
to my email.

Sincerely,
Ms. Nicolette Galo
