a conceptual process of target analysis and determination of standard that requires meeting the

For travel and tourism organization, communication is one of the key elements to maintain the
flow of services and planning of the activities according to trends and needs of the conditions at
different level. This is a basic process of interaction between management and staff for offering
the information and collection of feedback from the staff to identify the issues and make
changes in business strategy. According to analysis, the top management of Thomas Cook is
using the following communicating process to share and manage the information to keep the
staff update:
Email
In the current scenario, this is one of the most used method for communication and offering the
information to staff at different level of organization. Thomas Cook management is using this
method for sharing the knowledge and guideline to staff members. This is a upward
communication process that is having positive impact on the communication approach of travel

specific staff or all employees for processing and managing the resource and operations
according to organizational culture and objectives that organization is looking to achieve (Trudel
and Reio, 2011).

This is another method that manager of Thomas Cook are using for developing and maintaining

consumes lot of time and fund for processing and offering of the information.

(Communication Foundation, 2013)

P:4: ANALYSE ORGANISATIONAL CULTURE AND CHANGE IN SELCTED BUSINESS

Thomas Cook is large organization that offering the services across the world according to needs
and trends of particular areas. For managing the activities and decision making organization has
developed and implemented hierarchical structure for allocating the resources and collecting
the feedback from delegated authority. This kind of structure is helping to maintain the
professional approach in working as well offering of travel and tourism services. Apart from
that, the culture of organization is based on the locations and target customer groups which are
helping to attract the customers and staff to deal with organization and support them for
managing and updating the services. Organization has developed friendly and supportive
culture for all level of departments that helping them to gain the support from the staff
members and perfume the task professional manners. For example, the senior staff of Thomas
Cook is providing the essential support and guideline for staff members that encouraging staff
to work as per the standard along with rules and regulations proposed by management. The
healthy relationship, competitive working environment and coordination among the staff of
Thomas Cook is strength of organization which helping to maintain the culture (De Hoog.et.al.
2010).
There are various factors that forcing organization to make changes in the culture and ongoing
process. These factors involve demographic and economic those have direct impact on the
process of managing culture. Within business employees are asked to take the responsibility for
enhancing their risk taking potentials. It has also been observed that CEO of the business has
been laying down appropriate culture for their staff. The belief and values of individual has been
used for supporting the culture and developing the positive working environment. Economic
conditions and cost of managing the operational activities also have significant impact on the
cultural activities.

P.5: ASSESS OWN MANAGEMENT SKILLS PERFORMANCE.

There are several skills that are required to be a manager. Manager should be able to carry out
the roles and responsibilities accordingly. It is important to evaluate of personal skills because it
helps in understanding the needs and requirements of one’s own self in a better manner
(OSterman, 1990). An assessment of my skills in context to the required and important
managerial and management skills is presented below.
Leadership Skills: I personally believe that I have good leadership skills but I have never been in
a situation where I have to necessarily lead people apart from leading a team with few
members in my school annual function.. Hence, this is one aspect of managerial skill where I am
unsure of my own performance. There have been times where I have been a part of school
annual function team and have led my teams but that is not a clear indication of whether I can
handle other major responsibilities well or not.

Personal Skills: The personal skills required for managers include interpersonal, motivation and
communication skills. My interpersonal skills are very strong because I am closely connected to
all the people around me. Not only do my friends share their thoughts and feelings with me
easily but I can also connect and talk to strangers. This is an important art for managers and I
think I possess that art in me and can use it well for my role as a manager. Even my
communication skills are strong enough, except for my pronunciation. I can communicate well
but am not good at using signs and body language for communicating and hence that is
something I need to work on.

Organized and Planning skills: I plan my tasks well in advance and I also make sure that I
develop schedules and follow them appropriately in order to make sure that the tasks are
getting done completed in an adequate and timely manner. I also make use of planners for
managing my tasks and I rarely face the problem of not being able to complete my activities
because of poor planning.

Qualifications and Technical Abilities: The learning that I am receiving from this course is also
an added advantage to my capabilities and abilities. I am currently in the process of obtaining
qualification and aim at studying further for refinement of my knowledge and abilities.

Creative Skills: My creative abilities are good in nature. I can think quick but thinking out of the
box and finding new and innovative ways of doing things or solving problems is not something
that I am very good at. This is one of the biggest challenges that I need to overcome because a
manager needs to be extremely creative in order to manage all problems and resolve all issues
adequately.
Thus, overall I feel that I have some management skills while I still need to work on the others
because the skills that have been discussed above are extremely crucial for all managers.

P.6: ANALYSE PERSONAL STRENGTHS, WEAKNESS, OPPORTUNITIES AND

THREATS

STRENGTHS
One of my biggest strength is communication and adaptability. Being good at communication, I
can easily send across messages and my thoughts to others and vice-versa, I can understand
their thoughts and emotions in the best possible way. Adaptability being one of major strengths
I am comfortable to work in any state of the country or across the globe , with different people
having different personalities I can deal with all the chances in a positive way and get settled
with no difficulties. Thus strengths or characteristic has helped me in overcoming several
challenges. Confidence and the ability to learn quickly are also added strengths of mine. I am a
quick learner and hence can deal with any given situation by understanding the situation
accordingly in a quick manner.
WEAKNESS
As we all know that no one is perfect in the whole planet, I have my weakness too. My
weakness is that I am impatience for everything I do or want. My desire to find perfection is a
characteristic that becomes a weakness. Irrespective of a good job somebody has done, I always
try to find perfection in everything and hence that leads to an extra pressure and unwanted
struggle. I am also not very aggressive in nature. I tend to get aggressive when I am not with
situations around me. Some other weaknesses I feel I have are my hesitant nature, impatience
and intolerance levels.
OPPORTUNITIES
One opportunity that I look from my career perspective is to sharpen and enhance my technical
and knowledge skills and abilities. My future education can help me learn these new skills and
abilities. In, addition also have the opportunity to learn developing manager skills that I don’t
currently possess to incorporate everything required in a manager, which can help me become
more successful in my career.
THREATS
Getting into corporate world has become extremely difficult and challenging. As competition
increases, it is becoming more and more difficult and troublesome and hence it is one of my
biggest threats for my career as a manager in hospitality industry. However it is on me to
leverage on my strengths and opportunities to eliminate and remove my weakness and threats.

P.7: SET AND PRIORITIZE OBJECTIVES AND TARGETS TO DEVELOP OWN

POTENTIAL.
Organization shows progress only when every leader and staff contributes to a common
objective. For me it can be challenging to narrow in specific task that satisfy my need to
contribute. A strong first step is an overview analysis of what the company/organization and the
team needs followed by what I can focus on.
There are four important strategies or target to develop my own potential in a particular job or
task which is listed below:
1. Connecting my job to company success
Every employee and manger has a role to play which is directly linked to company success. For
this, I must take a detailed inventory of what I do and how my work affects the bottom line.
2. Identifying goal categories
I can achieve specific goals that can help to improve my personal success and enhance the
company’s prosperity. And I also need to brainstorm general ideas of what I will like to do
(Lovering).
3. Writing my S.M.A.R.T goals
I would like to turn my job objectives into S.M.A.R.T goals which includes who, what, when,
where, why and how to reach the goal. An S.M.A.R.T goal refers to:
Specific objectives require while target setting
Measurable result setting as a benchmark
Achievable with reference to time, support and resources provided
Relevant as to the relationship between specific goals and overall objectives of the task
Time-Bound which is a final cut-off to the activity being executed
4. Prioritizing my goals
I will determine which of my SMART goals should take priority in the given objectives of the
company and its overall position. For example, if my company is new to the geographical area
my first priority will increase my initial contacts and brand awareness (Lovering).

P.8: LEAD AND MOTIVATE A TEAM TO ACHIEVE AN AGREED GOAL OR

OBJECTIVES

One of the keys for running a successful business is motivating, leading and inspiring those who
work to achieve the organizational goals.
Here are few tips to lead, motivate and inspire the staff to achieve and exceed their goals such
as:
 Making sure everyone understands the big pictures
I will define a very clear picture of the future-a-vision for the team. This is crucial because teams
search desperately for special targets. I am going to consider the old expression: “If you don’t
know where you are going any road will get you there”. A journey without a clear destination
leaves my groups flat and lost.
I cannot sit back and watch but instead I will make sure to create and recreate the vision and
team spirit that stops people from losing heart and becoming lost (Macleod, 2015).
 Giving my team what they need
If team members lack the right tools or training, they may not feel capable or confident about
doing the tasks that I have assigned them to achieve the goals. Whether they need training, a
laptop, printer that works properly I will make it happen so that they can move forward with
confidence. If my team expresses a need for something I will be more productive. And if I fail to
provide it or approve it then my team will stop coming to me with improvement ideas
(Macleod, 2015).
 Creating a culture of peer accountability
Research has shown that, bosses are the source of accountability whereas in high performance
teams, peers manage the vast majority of performance problems with one another. Therefore in
order to achieve and exceed my goals it is worth creating a culture of peer accountability. Here
is how as a Leader I might create this:
 I will set an expectation from the team members.
 I will tell them stories related to success.
 I will Model their work.
 And at last I will teach new skills for innovative ideas.

 Stop Micromanaging
No one likes a boss who is constantly looking over his shoulder and second-guessing his every
decision. As a true leader I will step back and let my team do their jobs. If I have got the right
people on the bus then I need to trust my team members to perform well.
Once I have assigned a task, explained why it’s important, and made sure my employees have
the skills and the tools they need to complete it to an agreed standard, and then I will step back
and let them do the work. My job is to explain the “what” and “why” of the task. Their job is to
get the work done in the way they find most efficient (Macleod, 2015).
 Brining my team together often
One of the most important things I can do to ensure my team is on track to achieve their goals is
to hold regular meetings. I will bring my team members together weekly, at a fixed time, to talk,
discuss, catch up on progress, learn how the company is doing, and generally share ideas,
opinions, and insights.
At these meetings I will also provide and share key metrics which would tell the team how they
are progressing against their goals. My team should know whether they are winning or losing at
any given time (Macleod, 2015).
 Leading by example
My habits and leadership will rub off from my team. If I disappear for a few hours then I am not
leading by example. I will never dip below the bar I set and expect my team to perform at. I will
also demonstrate knowledge.
I may be a great motivator but if I lack knowledge, I lack credibility and my team will never take
me seriously as a leader if I am not credible.

 Being personable and accessible

Modern Leaders need to be accessible and approachable. If my team knows they can come to
me at any time with a problem, concern or suggestion and I will hear them out then it is going
to help create a team that will achieve its goals. Part of being a leader involves being there for
the team
If they have a question or need your advice, I will make sure that I make it easy for them to
access me. With email and mobile phones there is no reason my team shouldn’t be able to get
in touch with me when they need to (Macleod, 2015).
 Being an interesting storyteller
I will not just reel off facts and figures and expect members of my team to be instantly inspired.
I will try and bring all discussions back to real life situations, or interesting stories.
Personal stories are much more effective than cold facts, far more memorable, and my
experiences will give greater meaning to my team members, and create a deeper connection
between me and my staff (Macleod, 2015).
 Stressing my company’s purpose and explaining why
Setting goals and then exceeding them is always great, but I can also inspire my team by
enforcing what my company’s purpose is and "why" my organization exits.
Every successful product or service solves a problem, so I will remind my team that all of their
hard work really makes a difference beyond making the organization a profit (Macleod, 2015).
 Appreciating and motivating team members
I can make a huge difference in team morale by simply taking the time to recognize each
employee’s contributions and accomplishments, large or small. I will not take it for granted that
my team knows they’ve done well I will be generous with praise.
In summary the above are just a few of the behavioral traits that I should exhibit as a leader if I
want me and my whole team members to achieve their agreed goals and objectives (Macleod,
2015).
P.9: JUSTIFY MANAGERIAL DISCUSSION MADE TO SUPPORT ACHIEVEMENT OF
AGREED GOAL OR OBJECTIVE AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS.
The decisions that are made by managers must support achievement of goals and objective. In
order to run the organization efficiently and progressively as a manager I have to make various
types of decision so that the operational and functional processes work effectively.
There are some key decisions that I have done to manage the services:
 Strategic Planning

 Strategic Planning can be defined as a plan of action designed to achieve a long

term goal. In the hospitality industry strategic planning is very essential to gain
success and to increase the business.
 As a manager I have set priorities, strengths operations and make sure that all the
employees are working toward a common goal. I had also analyzed the past
activities of organization and identify the issues that influence the performance.
 Other than this, I have also evaluated the performance of the staff and gain
feedback from the customers in order to improve from the mistakes.

 Relationship Building

· In every organization relationship between the staff and the management plays a critical
role in the functioning of the organization. If there is a good communication and perfect
relationship between the employees and the manager than every task or goal of the
organization can be achieved in a systematic manner without any mess.
· For this purpose, I have taken decisions related to meetings every now and then and get
together of the team members so as to build relationship amongst them as well as to
understand the behavior of every team members.
· I have also respect and honor the team members for good performance and hard work
and will also consider their opinion so as to make them feel special and counted which
will eventually build their interest in the organization work process.

 Recommendations for Improvements

 For achieving set goals and objectives of company I have to put more emphasize on
active listening
 It is been recommended for me to focus on customer needs and satisfaction.
 Also the organization must offer a training session for the employees so that the staff
can learn and implement new tactics and skills.
 The feedback process must be improved in order to know customer needs and to
learn from the previous mistake.
 There should be a close monitoring of all the employees under which work record of
all the employees should be tracked.
 On the other hand, there must be a proper performance management system for the
employees who can be tracked on the basis of deadline and successful completion of
the task (In, 2016).
P.10: EXPLAIN HOW OWN MANAGERIAL AND PERSONAL SKILLS WILL SUPPORT
CAREER DEVELOPMENT.
The personal and managerial skill improves and initiates my career development in today’s
competitive environment. The personal traits like attitude, behavior, sincerity and dedication
towards the work glorifies my career. While the communication skills, thinking and learning
process are components of managerial skills.
The following are the outcome achieved when I engross these qualities:
1. Growth and Development
I will be benefited by personal growth and improved skills. As a psychological fact growth and
development provides the core satisfaction in the mind of a person with the increment and

capability to perform a task. Also it helps to deal with problematic situations in wise manner.
The experiences not only support in learning process but it also brings in innovative ideas in my
life (Brige, 2012).

3. Good decision making

As it is known, experience brings in good decision making power. When I work in an
organization for a longer period of time I become aware of the internal and external factors
affecting the company. Therefore, I will be able to identify and manage the tasks given by the
managers effectively through good decision making process (Gold J, 2010).

4 Improves leadership qualities

The leadership qualities like sharp perception, self-assessment, team building and better
motivational skills are formed. I will able to acquire more and more opportunities not
only in the personal context but in the business scenario too.

efficiency of an individual. Efforts are made by the individual to increase the productivity
of the organization. Hence, I will able to acquire quality product for the company (In,
