The scheme is constituted for the purpoSc of prO\ iding assistance in the form of grants IO
students for scientific research ,, ork ,, ith particu lar rele,·ance to the State of Kera la in th~
econom.ic and industrial development.

2 Grant will be released to the princ ipal ,m·estigator after the completion of the project through
the Head of the institution.

3. The maximum duration of the proj ecr ,, ill be one year from the date of start of the ~

4. This date of start of the project should be intimated by the Institution authorities/Principal
·I nvestigator to the Council. h shall. in no case be later than one month after the receipt of the
intimation letter from KSCSTE.

5. On completion of the project one hard copy and a soft copy tas pdf) of the final project
report on the work done in the prescribed format should be sent to lhe Council along with the
utilization certificate (UC) and statement of expenditure (SE). The Utilization Cenificaie
and Statement of Expenditure should be countersigned by the HOI nhtalbe~asjX'f~
rules of .KSCSTE

6. The institute will maintain separate audited accounts fo. the projocL

7. The institute will not entrust rhe implemen1ation of the "ork for which lhe o-rant is being
sanctioned to anocher institution nor will it di\'en the grant nxeipts to o~r institute ~
assi.stance.

& The council reserves the right to temunate the project at any stage if it is con~;nced that the
grant has ~ l been ~opccly ~til~ or a?p!°priate progress is not being made. In addition,
the Council may dcs1gruu.e Sctent1sl/Spectahs1 or an Ex.pen Panel to review the won;_ d."n!.

project is based, the Institute/ Pl \,\ ill inform the same to the Counc il and in consultation with

IO. Investigators must acknowledge the Counc il in reports and technical/scientific papers
publishing based on the research ,,.,ork done under the project. Investigators are requested to
publish some of the research papers emerg ing out of the project ,vork in leading Indian
Journals .

11. If the results of research are to be legally protected by way of patent/copy rights etc . the
results should not be published without action being taken to secure legal protection for the
research results.

12 The knowledge generated from the project w ill be the property of KSCSTE and should be
properly acknowledged . Transfer to technology generated shall be done in consultation with
the Council.

13. ~he Council may enforce additional gu idel ine s for the operation of the student project from
time to time and the Institution/ Investigator~ are required to observe such directions in the
conduct of the research work.

6. Abstract :
The objective is to implement a prototype that exhibits exact power outage point.System
functions on IED , relay switches, GSM module for good performance. Intelligent electronic
device(IED)added to enable advanced power automation .given the right tools, automatic
displaying operation can be surprisingly easy and can reap major benefits. Understanding
these benefits and some obstacles will help labour develop support for an automation in
power system .The greatest opportunity is to increase service to the customer (end user)
.Productivity is an obvious benefit of this system .
With the advancement of relays and devices in the power system sector,the stabilization of
power system could be implemented with very few steps.The IED 's can now be used to
identify the power flow in power system. These devices are get to be used for the tracking of
point of point of power outage happening in power system and it forms the basic idea of the
project

 METHODOLOGY

The project aims to improved utilisation of power in the distribution

system and reduce the burden of work (orce of electricity workers.
The proposed system identifies the exact location of failure in
overhead line cables.

The proposed system has a software part and hardware part,

Software part consist of an App which notify the exact location of
failure to the electricity workers. Hardware part includes an Arduino
which is programmed to control the whole system.

A current sensor senses the current through the electric line. Here we
use ACS712 current sensor module detector and which is connected to
the relay. The relay checks for any fault current. If the current flowing
through the line is greater than the rated value the relay sends a trip-
signal to the Arduino. Arduino keeps checking for the trip signal and
when the trip signal occurs it activates the GSM module.
