promote human rights and provide aid to individuals and nations in need.
6.1.4.A.15 Explain how and why it is important that people from diverse cultures collaborate to
find solutions to community, state, national, and global challenges.
6.1.4.A.9 Compare and contrast responses of individuals and groups, past and present, to
violations of fundamental rights.

I. Objective:
A. Students will be able to identify facts about their explorer by researching two
different explorers and writing about them.
II. Resources:
A. Chromebooks
B. Projector
C. Books on explorers
D. TCI (Online Textbook)
E. Pictures with resources on them
III. Essential Questions/subject Matter/ Content (prerequisite skills, key vocabulary, big
idea)
A. What is the purpose of researching multiple explorers?
B. How does this research affect the following project?
IV. Procedures/Strategies/ Methodology (Teaching)
A. Have the students sit around the carpet
B. Mr. Shirvanian will discuss explorers and why they were afraid to go a certain
distance. He will use the projector and google maps
C. Discuss why explorers wanted to discover another country or land
D. Have students stand around the table and choose one resource they think is the
most valuable
E. Have students sit back down at the carpet
F. Discuss why these resources were important to explorers
G. Have the students go back to their desks
H. Explain the Explorers Chart and what the students must do.
1. Research two explorers using Google, TCI, and Books
I. Students will then work independently for the rest of the class and ask any
questions if they need.

A. Many of the students were able to complete the Explorers chart with minimal
questions. Some students struggled with finding an explorer in books but when
guided or suggested a book, they were able to complete the task.
