Running head: CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PHILOSOPHY 1

Classroom Management Philosophy

Classroom management is a crucial component of creating and curating the ideal

learning environment and a safe space for students to learn and excel academically and socially.

A well-managed classroom allows teachers to be more effective educators. Classroom

management encompasses the creation of effective routines for students, the use of efficient

organizational methods, the modeling of positive behaviors and the establishment of clear-cut

rules and consequences for breaking the rules. As a future educator, it is essential to consider and

establish a classroom management plan that is based on my personal beliefs, principles, and

values that will meet the diverse needs of my students, create an engaging learning environment,

and achieve the students instructional goals.

I will create a classroom in which students feel valued, respected and are treated fairly

through modeling responsible and appropriate behaviors. The students will be greeted every day

to enhance self-regulation and increase class participation. In my classroom, students will be

treated as individuals and their differences (abilities, cultures, genders, ethnicities, and socio-

economic class) will be celebrated, valued, and appreciated. Students will be taught discipline

through the modeling of acceptable behavior and the use of consistent routines and expectations.

Students will be awarded for being positive role models and for striving to excel academically.

Notes of praise, rewards, or agreed upon incentives will be used to encourage and motivate

students. I plan to develop a set of rules as a class, which will be posted so that all students have

a voice in the creation of the learning environment and the classroom atmosphere. The

consequences of breaking established classroom rules will be fairly but firmly enforced. Students

will be corrected immediately and discreetly, using pointed questions to guide the students back

on track. I want students to develop an understanding of how adverse actions or disruptive

behaviors affect the whole class. Students will be taught to accept responsibility for their actions.

A series of time-outs, reminders, clap-backs, and non-verbal cues will be used when students are

struggling to keep self-control, becoming overwhelmed, or not paying attention.

A relationship with parents will be curated through regular and consistent

communication. Parents will be provided regular updates on class rules, lesson plans, and grades

through a class website, phone calls, and emails. The goal is for parents to have an active

understanding of what is going on in the classroom and how their children are doing

academically and behaviorally. Parents will be notified of the consequences of negative behavior

and more importantly, informed when students are excelling and doing well.

Ultimately, my goals will be to create a positive learning environment, for students to

develop a sense of responsibility, and to take full advantage of opportunities for learning,

including the ability to think critically, make decisions, and self-reflect upon their actions. I want

to nurture students social, emotional, and academic development, so they continue to grow as

students who enjoy learning. Lastly, I will make a promise of continued self-reflection and self-

development. It is essential for the teacher's knowledge to continue developing as much as the

students. As I grow as a learner, teacher, and person, I want to continually to self-reflect and self-

mediate upon my actions, my strategies, and my performance to continue learning and evolving

my knowledge, skills, and classroom management philosophy.
