Sinusoidal steady state Response of RLC Circuits

Aim:
Conduct an experiment for Sinusoidal steady state Response of RLC
Circuits

Apparatus/Tool required:
ORCAD / Capture CIS --> Analog Library – R, L & C
Source Library – Vac
Ground (GND) – 0 (zero)

Simulation Settings: Analysis Type – Transient (Time Domain)

Run to time: 20ms

Theory:

Formulae:
Procedure: -
• Create the given circuit in new project file using the general procedure.
• Create new simulation profile and select analysis type as “AC sweep”.
• Insert start frequency of 1, end frequency 1000 and point 10.
• Select current differential marker and place it on end of the resistor.
• Run the simulation and observe the current variations at different
frequency.
• Calculate the resonance frequency manually and by graph and compare
with simulation.

CALCULATION:
Simulation Circuit Diagram:
Tabulation and Graph:-

Frequecy(Hz) Current(mA)
3.2352 18.785
7.6066 41.059
14.734 63.357
31.623 89.844
107.815 100.00
323.520 92.021
710.371 69.958
1440.2 42.749
3126.4 21.196
9664 6.9923
30213 2.2421

Result: - The current is maximum at resonance frequency i.e., 107.0834 Hz.

From manual calculations and from simulation current is max. at a
resonance frequency of 107.152 Hz. Both the results are equal.

Inference: - Hence, current reach its maximum value in an RLC circuit

when XL=XC and the frequency at which it occurs is called resonance
frequency.
