PROMPT 1
Introduction
Created in 1971, UNO is a classic card game that almost everyone has played. Despite
its immense popularity, Mattel Games feels that UNO hasn’t progressed in recent
years. They’re looking to revamp and revolutionize the game, and you’ve been hired to
do this. You have to kick off a technological revolution in this rather stagnant space.
What do I have to do?
Your task depends on which skill you wish to go for. Refer to the skill-specific tasks
below and decide which you wish to pursue. You can pursue multiple tasks. If you have
a skill that isn‘t covered by the given tasks, send us an email at exun@dpsrkp.net, and
we’ll make a custom task for you.
Graphic Design
Juniors (Classes 6-8)
Mattel needs new branding for the classic card game. Your first task is to design a new
logo for UNO. Remember, the logo is extremely important — it’s the first thing
customers will see. Will you be able to impress them?
Your second task is to redesign the UNO cards to make them more appealing and
improve playability. Mattel requires you to redesign the front and back faces of at least
3 cards. One of these must be a special card i.e. you must redesign at least one of the
following cards: draw 2, reverse, skip, wild, draw 4.
How will the new cards look? What designs can you place on them? Colours and
numbers are important aspects of the game, and you need to incorporate those in a
visually appealing way. Will you be able to carry forward the essence of UNO for
generations to come?
Seniors (Classes 9-11)
Your tasks include the work in the junior prompt. Additionally, you also need to design
a poster to market the redesigned UNO.
Web Design / Development
You have to make a website for UNO. Your website should have a homepage,
showcasing the new features of the redesign, a rules page which introduces the game
to new players and a shop page where users can buy the redesigned card deck. The
shop page doesn’t have to be functional, we’re just looking at the design.
Web Design / Development Hacker Edition
If you’re feeling particularly adventurous and feel that the regular web development
prompt doesn’t satisfy your thirst for code, the Hacker Edition is for you. The Hacker
Edition requires you to build a browser-based functional online multiplayer UNO
game using any JavaScript framework or library of your choosing. We don’t suggest
attempting this prompt if you don’t already have a good understanding of how
JavaScript and its surrounding ecosystem works.
Audio Production
What’s better than an energetic and zestful piece of music accompanying UNO
players? Your task is to create a track to get the players going, have them spring
around and most importantly, make sure they have fun! Fabricate the sounds in
accordance with the theme and feel that a card game brings to the table. The track
should be between 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes long.
3D Modeling
Mattel is looking to sustain UNO for generations to come, and they need new
accessories to keep the the classic card game fun and interesting. They’ve come up
with an idea to create a device to dispense UNO playing cards. Your task is to create a
3D model of this new device, which will allow people to deal the cards with ease. How
will it look like? Will it be an automated machine — press a button and cards are dealt?
Will it be a physical card holder with space for different stacks of cards? This new
accessory is expected to boost UNO’s sales immensely, and it is up to your imagination
to create it.
Video / Animation
Make an aesthetically pleasing animated video promoting the brand new UNO. The
video should be appealing to the target audience and should be able to show them the
fun in the old-school game.
PROMPT 2
Introduction
It is the year 2040, and you are Space Origin, an aerospace contractor. You have been
given a chance to take on the serious challenge of developing the first space hotel, the
most exquisite holiday destination ever. Put your own unique and creative spin on the
work, but remember make it appealing — you want to draw hoards of tourists! Do you
have the skills to take humans to the stars and beyond?
What do I have to do?
Your task depends on which skill you wish to go for. Refer to the skill-specific tasks
below and decide which you wish to pursue. You can pursue multiple tasks. If you have
a skill that isn‘t covered by the given tasks, send us an email at exun@dpsrkp.net, and
we’ll make a custom task for you.
Graphic Design
Juniors (Classes 6-8)
Since the space hotel is the first of its kind, it needs appealing branding. Your first task
is to create a logo for the space hotel. Remember, the logo is extremely important —
it’s the first thing potential tourists will see. Will you be able to impress them?
Once the hotel is functional, guests will require key cards to access the room. Your
second task is to design the front and back of the electronic key card provided to
guests.
Guests staying at the space hotel will have the option to hang signs on their doors.
While hotels on Earth have “Do Not Disturb” and “Please Clean Room” signs, these
could be different for a space hotel. Your final task is to create two door-hanging signs.
You could create regular signs as found on earth hotels, or use your imagination to
create something innovative — perhaps a “Robot on Work, Do Not Enter” sign? Space
Origin is leaving it up to you and your creativity.
Seniors (Classes 9 - 11)
Your tasks include the work in the junior prompt. Additionally, you have to design a
poster for the hotel to attract tourists. Will you be able to woo the tourists and
encourage them to stay at the hotel?
3D Modeling PRO
If you feel the other prompt doesn’t do justice to your skills, and you want a challenge,
this is for you. Your task is to create a complete model of a space hotel, in operation.
You must provide at least 3 different views. Extra brownie points if you manage to
make an animation!
Video / Animation
You have to create a promotional video for the space hotel, urging people to fly there
for their vacation. Keep the hype alive!
