OBJECTIVES FOR THE LOGO
The Logo needs to be:
1. Modern yet Recognisable
The Doordarshan brand has endured for more than half a century and evokes strong feelings of nostalgia among
its audience. Therefore, it is essential that it remains recognisable. That said, it needs a modern update to reflect
the aspirations of modern India.
2. Flexible in Application
The Doordarshan logo will be used in a variety of static and moving media. It will be used in social media pages,
printed documents, websites, online videos; will be overlaid on all the TV channels. In the future, it may also be
used in Virtual Reality applications, 360° videos and other new age media.

3. Homage to a Legend
The original logo, designed by Devashis Bhattacharyya, is a true legend. It has endured over the years and still
evokes strong nostalgia among Indians. Therefore it was essential to be sensitive to this and retain the rich
emotional value of the logo while giving it a modern refresh.
The original logo was designed when the transmission was in black & white, and content was primarily consumed
on TV screens. Today, devices with high-definition, full-colour screens, are the primary medium of consumption.
The new logo has been designed knowing that it will used in social media pages, websites, video content and
other media where vibrant and bold colours can be displayed with high fidelity.
Removing the text from inside the logo, allows it to be displayed completely even when used in very small sizes
like profile pictures, website icons and app icons.

During the initial phase of research, I came across strong reactions to the news of the Doordarshan logo redesign.
I learnt two things:
1. 94% of the responders indicated that they felt 2. ~600 Retweets and ~3000 Likes. Clearly indicates
