In this modern age Business is the main choice in finding or creating a business,
that's all because the business world is the world that has the most opportunity to get a
lot of profits. From being a civil servant who receives mediocre salaries a businessman
can determine his own salary. But in business we really need communication.
Language as a communication tool has its own role in business. As citizens of
Indonesia, of course we use Indonesian as a national language, we know that
Indonesian has also been taught from kindergarten to universities.

In the long term, changing technology and demographics could influence the
demand for English. However, in the short to medium term, business demand for

there has been unprecedented investment in English language learning. However, the

language skills. English is the language of global business, and the globalisation trend
is predicted to grow even further. The sheer size of the English language skills gap is
surprising. English has been an international lingua franca for some time. It indicates
how prevalent English requirements have become in all industries, all organisation
sizes, all functions and at all management levels. English language skills have never
been more essential to succeed and progress at work. The English language learning

CHAPTER II

THEORITICAL REVIEW

2
What Is The Meaning Of Language ?
Language is one of the important things in communicating. The following are
language definitions and definitions according to experts:

1. Bill Adams

Language is a system of developing individual psychology in an inter-subjective

context.

2. Wittgenstein

Language is a form of thought that can be understood, related to reality, and has a
logical form and structure.

3. Ferdinand De Saussure

Language is the most prominent distinguishing feature because with language

each social group feels itself to be a different entity from another group.

Language is a sound system which when combined according to certain rules

creates meaning that can be captured by all those who speak in that language. When
viewed from several definitions and understanding of language according to some
experts above, we can see that there are different definitions of language where the
definition of each expert depends on what each of them wants to emphasize. But
despite differences, it seems that it is agreed that language is a system of sound
symbols used to communicate by the community or its users.

Benefits of Language and Development in the Community

1. Tools for communicating with fellow humans.

3
The use of language as a communication tool, has a specific purpose, namely
that we are understood by others. So in this case the response of the listener or
opponent communicant is our main concern.

2. Tools for working with fellow humans (doing business).

As social beings, humans always live in groups and form a social environment
which of course they live in it, work and look for life necessities. This is where the
language serves as a tool to work with one another.

What Definition of Business ?

The following is a business understanding according to experts:

1. Brown and Petrello (1976)

"Business is an institution which produces demanded by people goods and

services." This means that a company or business is an institution that produces goods
and services needed by the community. If people's needs increase, their business
institutions will also increase to meet those needs, while obtaining profit.

2. Steinford (1978)

"Business is all those activities that are involved in providing goods or services
that are activities that provide goods or services that are needed or desired by
consumers. They can be done by corporate organizations that have legal entities,
companies that have business entities, as well as individuals who do not have legal
entities or business entities such as street vendors, stalls that do not have a Business
License (SITU) and Business Place Permit (SIUP) and other informal businesses.

Role of Language in the Field of Business

Seeing the second language function, namely as a tool to work with fellow
humans (business), of course language has an important role in the world of business.

4
Business itself does have a variety of functions that are very important both for
entrepreneurs themselves, society as well as the State.

Therefore good business must be supported with good language. In the present
time language is very important especially human behavior can certainly be seen from
the language they speak. Therefore many companies in Indonesia use language in the
prerequisites for job applicants. We can see also in the language education curriculum
included in the National Examination (Indonesian and English). Therefore we cannot
underestimate the language.

In the field of business, language is usually used as a promotional tool and also
marketing. For example, advertising a product without good and interesting language,
of course the community will not be interested in the product. In communication
between employees and bosses, of course also requires language, employees who are
communicative and polite will be more respected and respected both by other
employees and by superiors.
