Planning and Producing Instructional Media

1. What was the context (the course, purpose, situation, etc.) in which this artifact was
created?

My artifact for this class showcased learning centered around video editing, sound, and
photos. My group members and I created a video to inform educators about ISTE
Standard 2 for Educators.

2. What outcome(s) (ISTE standards) were you demonstrating in creating it? For each
outcome, describe how the artifact addresses the indicators within the standard.

Standard 1 Learner: Educators continually improve their practice by learning from and
with others and exploring proven and promising practices that leverage technology to
improve student learning.
1c Stay current with research that supports improved student learning outcomes,
including findings from the learning sciences.

This artifact meets this benchmark because teachers are watching our video all about
Standard 2. This means that teachers are working with others and focusing on research
to learn about best practices in order to improve student learning.

Standard 2 Leader: Educators seek out opportunities for leadership to support student
empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning.
2a Shape, advance and accelerate a shared vision for empowered learning with
technology by engaging with education stakeholders.
2b Advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital content and
learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students.
2c Model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation, and
adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning.
My artifact met this standard and benchmarks because the video centered around how
teachers at all levels are able to be leaders and advocate for their students. The video
gave examples of strategies to support student empowerment. Its purpose was also to
motivate teachers to seek out new digital tools and resources for learning.

3. What challenge(s) did you encounter in creating this artifact? What did you learn from
encountering this/these challenge(s), and how can you turn these challenges into
opportunities in your current or future professional life?

One of the challenges in creating this project was coordinating the schedules of four
people at different stages in their lives. One person was a college student so she took
classes during the day and worked at night, making it more difficult for her to find time to
meet. From this challenge, I learned that you have to be flexible in when and also how
you work with a group. I felt as though I could turn these challenges into opportunities
for creativity. We were able to use collaborative tools like google slides to make
comments and communicate. We also used and recorded some of our zoom meetings
when she was unable to meet.

4. What does this work show about you and your capabilities?

This work showed that I am capable of allowing others to take the lead. When I work on
group projects I feel as though I always take the lead and at times can take over the
project. It was nice to work on a project where I took a step back and allowed others to
lead. It shows that I am capable of growth and supporting my team even if I’m not
necessarily leading it.

5. What did completing this work teach you about yourself as a 21st Century educator?

This work taught me that there is so much more to creating a video project than I
thought. It’s easy to understand that the videos, photos, and sound are important, but it
also involved a lot of planning. I learned that as a 21st Century educator I don’t always
give my students time to plan out projects. I tend to give them the expectations, a
device, and expect them to follow directions. This work allowed me to be reflective and
change how I plan in the future.
