A 230 V, 50 Hz ac power supply is connected to an inductive load with a resistance of 8 

and an inductance of 0.05 H.

(a) Calculate:

(i) The impedance of the load in polar form. (3 marks)

(ii) The magnitude and phase angle of the load current. (3 marks)

(iii) The apparent power and power factor. (3 marks)

(iv) The real power supplied to the load. (3 marks)

(v) The reactive power supplied to the load. (3 marks)

(a) A 200V shunt DC motor has an armature resistance of 0.4 and field resistance of 200.

When the motor connects to a 200V supply, it rotates a constant load at a speed of 500

rpm, and a 25A of current flows in the armature. Calculate:

(i) Total current draws from the supply. (3 marks)

(ii) The motor back e.m.f. (2 marks)

(b) Determine the new field resistance and new back emf of the motor if the motor speed

increases from 500 rpm to 700 rpm. Assume the magnetization curve is linear in the stator

angle for a load at following power factor:

(i) Unity. (8 marks)
