Firstly, thanks for your interest with my AutoCAD Basic Drafting E-Book. I have 3 years experience in
AutoCAD 2D Drafting & 3D Modeling as both freelance and industrial drafter/designer. AutoCAD is among
the important software that need to be understand by students and workers in Engineering, Construction
and Architecture fields.

My name is Mohamad Nazmi Bin Ismail, AutoCAD 2D & 3D Trainer and author for this E-Book AutoCAD
Basic Drafting for Beginner. I possess the Autodesk Certified Professional: AutoCAD and also registered as
Graduate Engineer with Board of Engineers Malaysia. Graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA in
Bachelor’s Degree of Engineering (Hons) Oil & Gas.

Now, I’m working as engineer in oil and gas industry and also do my freelance job as drafter/designer for
contractors, consultants and students. Besides, I have also trained the students and workers in Engineering,
Construction and Architecture fields to improve their AutoCAD Drafting skills.

1. BASIC SHAPES PRACTICES

1. Firstly, open the AutoCAD file, open the new drawing, then take a look on bottom of your screen.
2. You can on and off the grid mode by clicking on the first icon from the left of the picture above.
3. The middle icon is for polar tracking while the right icon is for object snap tracking.

4. Type command ‘limits’, press ENTER, then type coordinate 0,0, press ENTER, type coordinate 1000,1000, press ENTER. Then
click on your middle mouse button twice.
5. The function of this command is to set the model space area. For example 1000x1000.

A. LINES

1. Type ‘line’, press ENTER.


2. Click on the starting point, move cursor to the right, then enter value ‘900’, press ENTER.

B. CIRCLE

1. Type ‘circle’, press ENTER.


2. Click on the screen to specify the center of the circle.
3. Move cursor upwards, then enter ‘200’, press ENTER.

C. RECTANGLE

1. Type ‘rec’, press ENTER.


2. Click on the screen, then enter @,300,300, press ENTER.

D. POLYGON

1. Type ‘pol’, press ENTER.


2. Enter the number of sides: 5.

3. Click on the screen to specify the center of the polygon.


4. Then choose ‘inscribed in circle’.

5. Enter the radius of the polygon, 200.

E. HATCH

1. Type ‘hatch’, press ENTER.


2. Select the pattern that appear on the top left of your screen.

3. Click inside the shape.

4. Adjust the hatch scale as per picture above.

2. BASIC ANNOTATIONS PRACTICES.

A. DIMENSIONING

1. Type ‘dimstyle’, press ENTER.


2. Select ‘Standard’, click ‘Set Current’.
3. Select Modify.

4. On the Symbols and Arrows tab, change the ‘Arrow size’ into 20.

5. On the text tab, change the text height to 20 and click on ISO standard text alignment.
6. Click OK. Then click close.

7. Type ‘dimlinear’, press ENTER.


8. Click on the first point of the object that you want to measure, then click on the second point.
9. Move cursor upwards, then click.

B. TEXTING

1. Click on the ‘Annotation’.


2. Click on the ‘standard’, then click on the ‘manage text style’.

3. Enter the text height ‘20’, then click Apply and Close.

4. Click on the screen, then move the cursor to the left, then click.
5. You can insert the text.
6. The by using the ‘plot’ command, convert the file from DWG to PDF.
