(09:59:50 PM) (ME) said : Hello celine

(10:00:40 PM) (ME) said : I have come across driving license information and want to know which document
student need to drive in canada

(10:01:32 PM) (ME) said : Settlement.org says that visitor can travel on international driver permit but
resident can only drive on Ontario driver license

(10:02:04 PM) (ME) said : I just want to know student is considered under under visitor or resident category

(10:04:16 PM) (Celine) said : One moment, please. I'll see if I can find the answer for you.

(10:06:28 PM) (ME) said : Yes..please

(10:06:51 PM) (Celine) said : Your valid drivers license from your home country is valid in Canada for the first
90 days after you land in the country, whether you are considered a resident or a
visitor. The same rules apply.

(10:08:10 PM) (Celine) said : If you obtain an international drivers license, yes. It will be valid for 1 year.

(10:08:59 PM) (ME) said : Can we drive for 1 year in Canada on int license..as student

(10:10:40 PM) (Celine) said : Yes. Your student status does not affect your license.

(10:11:17 PM) (ME) said : But you also have said we can drive 90 days only on int license

(10:11:28 PM) (ME) said : A bit confusion

(10:12:05 PM) (Celine) said : Those are 2 different things. There is your country's drivers license, which you
can use for 90 days.

(10:12:22 PM) (ME) said : Oh oh ..sorry

(10:12:28 PM) (Celine) said : And then there is an international drivers license (which must be obtained
seperately), which can be used for 1 year

(10:12:28 PM) (ME) said : Understood

(10:13:19 PM) (ME) said : Ok finally, if student gets int driver license..he can drive for 1 year in canada

(10:14:23 PM) (ME) said : ?

(10:14:34 PM) (Celine) said : Yes. that is correct. Unless you become a permanent resident in the province
where you are studying, then you must obtain a drivers license of that province,
after 60 days of being in that province.

(10:15:17 PM) (ME) said : Ok..and what after 1 year..is it extendable from within Canada after expiry

(10:16:45 PM) (Celine) said : You would need to have your license renewed after the 1 year.

(10:17:31 PM) (Celine) said : I believe this process is done within your original country, since you cannot use an
IDP obtained within Canada, in Canada

(10:17:58 PM) (ME) said : Some students also bring driving experience certificate to Canada.. for what is that

(10:18:32 PM) (ME) said : That's my last enquiry

(10:20:18 PM) (Celine) said : In Ontario for example, you need a minimum of 2 years of driving experience to
obtain an Ontario license.

(10:20:45 PM) (Celine) said : They use that document as proof, to determine when they can apply for a full
Ontario drivers license.

(10:21:05 PM) (ME) said : Ok.

(10:21:34 PM) (ME) said : So is it advisable to have both experience certificate and int driving license?

(10:21:47 PM) (Celine) said : Yes. The more proof with you, the better.

(10:22:26 PM) (ME) said : Thanks that was of great help.

(10:22:48 PM) (ME) said : Have a nice day ahead celine

(10:22:55 PM) (Celine) said : You're welcome. Have a good day

(10:22:59 PM) (System) said : Chat session ended
