1. “I finally realized what I don’t like about your church.”
She was a visitor. She looked familiar but I couldn’t remem-
ber her name. Maybe a high school classmate? Then she
really shocked me.
“Hi, Pastor. You probably don’t remember me. I
have visited only five or six times. We are on our
way to Florida to visit our daughter. Each year we
come through and stop here to worship.” I gave
her my 150 watt smile. Before I could speak she
said “I finally realized what I don’t like about your
church.” I braced myself for the criticism. Then she
really shocked me.
“What I don’t like is… (pause) I don’t like it to be
over.” The relief on my face must have been too
obvious. She laughed and smiled, while her hus-
band shook his head in agreement. Obviously God
blessed her. We are not perfect, but I hope you
realize what God has built here at Eastmont.
2. We build people before building steeples. That was our
motto 20 years ago when we built our new sanctuary. It is
still true today. We like church members, but we prefer mak-
ing disciples.
3. Freedom is not free. We are the land of the free because
of the brave. Each Memorial Day Sunday, we remember two
special groups. (1) Those who gave their life in service for
our country. (2) Eastmont members who passed away since
last Memorial Day. It is a beautiful and touching worship
time. Grief can become “good grief” when you trust God for
help.
4. To reach those no one else is reaching, we must do what
no one else is doing. I am so very proud of our Senior Adults.
They held Vacation Bible School in three retirement centers
this month (three more will be held in the fall). Our Youth go
door to door inviting children to IJ2 Bible Clubs. We provided
a special Mother’s Day banquet for single moms. Our Vaca-
tion Bible School will bring hundreds of unchurched and un-
saved to our door. To reach those no one else is reaching,
we must do what no one else is doing.
5. God ideas are better than good ideas. We can be very
smart, clever and creative at times. I’m glad we are. (Many
churches are dying from sameness.) I’m convinced God uses
different ways to attract and catch fish. However, we always
depend on God’s spirit to guide us. Our methods may
change, but not our message. Pray, pray and pray some
more. God ideas are better than our good ideas.
6. We are not on pause, we are on mission. As my retire-
ment draws near, God reminded me that I am not on pause
either. Just like Eastmont, I am on mission until He calls me
home.

From Your Deacon Chairman
Plans are being made to celebrate Brother Mike’s minis-
try at, service to, and love for Eastmont. Save the fol-
lowing dates: JUNE 16 and JULY 14.
On June 16, Brother Mike will preach his last sermon as
our pastor. We will have a combined morning worship
service at 10:30. Please plan to arrive early and make
room for friends, loved ones, and guests. During the
service, we will honor Brother Mike with a special
presentation.
Then on July 14, we will have a reception honoring
Brother Mike and his family for their 32 years of minis-
try at Eastmont. This will be a time of fellowship, food,
remembrance, and gratitude. Please plan to attend.
In the meantime, pray for Brother Mike and Connie
during this time of transition.

Children's Ministry during Preschool Worship (10:30 am)
Timothy Time - Sundays at 4:45pm. Meet on the play-

5th & 6th Grade Mission Journey
May 30th - June 2nd. Going to Shocco Springs, Huntsville,
and Mentone, AL to grow as a team with fun, tour minis-
try centers and help in commissioning summer missionar-
ies @ the Nehemiah Training Center. Cost is $50.

MONTGOMERY BISCUITS FUND RAISER
Eastmont Students have an opportunity to partner with
the City of Montgomery to help with parking at Riverwalk
Stadium for Biscuits games. Families who serve can earn
significant money toward Summer Mission Trip and Su-
per Summer. Speak to Cleve for details.
1J2 SUMMER CLUB
1J2 takes place Monday through Friday, June 3-7. There
will be two 1J2 Teams in operation in two Montgomery
communities: Hyde Park and Chisholm. For more info
on 1J2, visit the church website and click on the events
section.
1J2 DOOR-TO-DOOR
Join us Wednesday, May 29, as we take TimeOut to the
Streets and invite the Hyde Park community to join us for
1J2. We will meet at the church at 6:00 to load bus-
es. Then we will return at 7:30 p.m.
ST. LOUIS MISSION TRIP MEETING
On Sunday, June 9, 5:00 p.m. we will have a meeting to
discuss the St. Louis Trip. The trip is scheduled for June
23-30.
SUPER SUMMER July 8-12
The registration deadline for SSAL has passed. For those
who registered, be sure to pick up a MY TESTIMONY
sheet, available outside the TimeOut room.

Meets on the last Sunday night of each month at Clo-
verdale Baptist at 8pm. The next meeting will be May
26th. Guest speaker: Joseph Falcione, Student Pastor at
Dalraida Baptist.

Every Thursday at 7pm at the Kim’s house (4023 John-
stown Dr). Our series is called Relational Rehab: A study
on the book of Malachi.
Beach Retreat
At Laguna Beach Christian Retreat in Panama City. July 26-

Mother’s Day Event
Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped in deco-
rating, cooking, & serving our community with this
event. We had a wonderful time loving on our dear
friends from the Friendship Mission.
Music & Worship Ministries
The Music and Worship Ministries presents the annual
PATRIOTIC CELEBRATION Sunday, June 30 at 10:30 am
and Monday, July 1 at 6 pm. This is a time to honor our
country, those who have served and to thank God for
the earthly and eternal freedoms He provides. We are
working on it now and there is room for you to be in-
volved... from the Community Band to the Combined
Choirs (1st grade and up) find out how you can cele-
brate with us!!
STUDENT CHOIR
Student Choir rehearses each Sunday at 4:00 in the
Choir Suite.
Student Choir Tour is June 16-20! We will be engaging in
worship and missions with the Baldwin Baptist Associa-
tion in Gulf Shores, Alabama. There is still time to sign
up!
KIDZ CHOIR
Our Kidz Choir has the opportunity to sing in Eastmont’s
Patriotic Service! We are so excited to get our group
back together for this great worship celebration. So, if
you are in 1st-6th grade come sing with us!Even if
you’ve never been in Kidz Choir before!!Our first re-
hearsal will be 5-6pm, June 9, in the Choir Suite.
FOREVER YOUNG CHOIR
Senior adults practice at 9:00 in the Choir Suite. Our
next rehearsals will be 6/23 and 6/25

A special thank you to each and every one who volun-
teered to help lead and serve at our area assisted living
facilities. Thank you for being willing to share your time
and talents but most of all for sharing with your

Senior Adult Road Trip
May 28th – We will go to the Paw Paw Patch for lunch
(country cooking) and stop on the way back at Durbin’s
Farm Market. Total cost is $15 per person. Please see
