Answers
(1) 32 kg

Step 1

Let us assume that l, w and h are the length, width and height of the cuboid, respectively.
According to the question, the size of the cuboid is 5 cm × 10 cm × 15 cm.
Therefore, l = 5 cm,
w = 10 cm, and
h = 15 cm

Step 2

Volume of a cuboid = lwh cm3

So, the volume of the cuboid of size 5 cm × 10 cm × 15 cm = 5 × 10 × 15 = 750 cm 3,
The volume of an another cuboid of size 12 cm × 5 cm × 16 cm = 12 × 5 × 16 = 960 cm 3

Step 3
Since, the weight of the cuboid of size 5 cm × 10 cm × 15 cm is 25 kg, we can say that the weight
of the cuboid of volume 750 cm3 is 25 kg.
25
Weight of the cuboid of volume 1 cm3 = kg
750
25
Thus, the weight of the cuboid of volume 960 cm3 = × 960
750
= 32 kg

Step 4
Hence, the weight of an another cuboid of the same material with the size 12 cm × 5 cm × 16 cm
is 32 kg.

(2) 15

Step 1
Let's assume that the names of the people in the party are p1, p2, p3,...... p5, p6.

Step 2
Now, p1 will shake hands with 5 other people. Total handshakes involving p1 = 5.
Now, p2 will also shake hands with another 5 people, but the handshake between p2↔p1 is
already counted above. Hence only 4 new handshakes will involve p2.
Similarly, for p3, handshakes p3↔p1 and p3↔p2 are already counted. Hence 3 new handshakes
will happen.
Similarly new handshakes for p4, ..., p6 can be calculated by continuously reducing handshakes
by one.

Step 3
Therefore total number of handshakes
=5+4+3+2+1
= 15 handshakes.

Step 4
Thus, there will be 15 handshakes altogether.

(3) 24 days

Step 1

According to question Lovleen played cricket on Thursday. Lovleen plays cricket every 4 th day.
Now Lovleen will play cricket again on Monday after 4 days and so on ....

Step 2
By this way you can say that after 24 days she will play cricket again on Sunday.

(4) 35

Step 1
According to the question, both the numbers are divisible by 5.
Let us assume that the numbers are 5x and 5y.
Also, since the numbers are not equal to 5, x and y cannot be 1.

Step 2
It is given that the product of the two numbers is 875.
(5x) (5y) = 875
⇒ 25xy = 875
875
⇒ xy =
25
⇒ xy = 35

Step 3
Since x and y cannot be 1, the only possible factors of xy are 7 and 5.

Step 4
Therefore, the numbers are (7 × 5 = 35) and (5 × 5 = 25).

Step 5
Hence, the larger of the two numbers = 35

(5) 90

Step 1
Let us rewrite this question as follows,
15% of 50% of 1200 = 15% of (50% of 1200)

Step 2
Now, let us first find value of (50% of 1200),
50
(50% of 1200) = 1200 ×
100
= 600

Step 3
Now we can find value of 15% of (50% of 1200) as follows,
= 15% of (50% of 1200)
= 15% of 600
15
= 600 ×
100
= 90

(6) 420 m

Step 1
Let us assume that a is the length of the park.
Therefore, the area of the square park = a2 = 625
⇒ a2 = 25 2
⇒ a = 25 m

Step 2
Now, the perimeter of the square = 4a = 4 X 25 = 100 m

Step 3
Since, each circuit of the wire should be 5% greater than the perimeter of the park, therefore the
length of the each circuit of the wire = Perimeter of the square park + 5% of the perimeter of the
square park
5
= 100 + 100 X
100
500
= 100 +
100
= 100 + 5
= 105 m

Step 4
Therefore, the length of the wire needed for fencing the park 4 times = 4 X 105
= 420 m.

(7) 6

Step 1
It is given that 30 is the sum of 2, 1, 4b, and 3
Therefore, 2 + 1 + 4b + 3 = 30
⇒ 4b + 6 = 30
⇒ 4b = 30 - 6
24
⇒b=
4
⇒b=6

Step 2
Thus, the value of b is 6.

(8) 1

Step 1
We know that the lines which divide any image into two pieces such that the two become mirror
images of each other are called lines of symmetry.
For example : the line in the given triangle is the line of symmetry.

Step 2

Now, if we look at the given figure carefully, we notice that the number of lines of symmetry are 1.

(9) 4

Step 1

If we notice the 2nd and the 3rd picture, it can be seen that the number in the center is the
difference of the numbers at the top and the bottom
31 - 24 = 7 and 25 - 16 = 9

Step 2

Therefore, the 1 st picture should also follow this pattern,

So, the number in the center of the 1st picture is 8 - 4 = 4

(11) 2400 meters

Step 1
According to the question, a dog is walking around the periphery of a right-angled triangle shown
in the picture.

Step 2
Let us assume that the length of AC is x meters.
In ΔABC,
AC2 = AB 2 + BC2
⇒ x2 = 75 2 + 1002(Pythagorean Theorem)
By solving it, x = 125.

Step 3
Therefore, the length of AC is 125 meters.
We know that the periphery of a right-angled triangle ΔABC = AB + BC + AC
= 75 + 100 + 125
= 300 meters

Step 4
Distance traveled by the dog in 8 rounds = 8 × 300 = 2400 meters

(12) -2

Step 1
Rules of the exponent:
Rule 1: When we multiply any two numbers with the same base, we add the exponents.
Rule 2: When we divide any two numbers with the same base, we subtract the exponents.
Rule 3: When we have an exponent expression that is raised to a power, we can multiply the
exponent and the power.
1
Rule 4: (x)-n can be written as
(x)n
Rule 5: If, (y)x = (y)10 then we can write x = 10.

Step 2
Now
1 1
[{( ) -1}2]x =
3 81

1 1
⇒ {( ) -1}2x =
3 (3)4

1 1
⇒( ) -2x =
3 (3)4
1 1
⇒( ) -2x = ( )4
3 3
⇒ -2x = 4
⇒ x = -2

Step 3
Hence, the value of x is -2 .

Ramakrishnan's mother-in-law = Ramakrishnan's wife's mother

Step 2
The only daughter of Ramakrishnan's mother-in-law = Ramakrishnan's wife's mother's only
daughter = Ramakrishnan's wife

Step 3
The daughter of only daughter of Ramakrishnan's mother-in-law = Ramakrishnan's wife's daughter
= Ramakrishnan's daughter

Step 4
Therefore, Ramakrishnan is the father of the girl singing on stage.

Therefore, the length of a side of a regular polygon =

Therefore, the number of sides walked by the mouse on the regular polygon =
