Answers

(1) 30π cm 2

Step 1
Following figure shows the square inscribed into a semi-circle,

Let's assume, a is the length of the side of the square.

Therefore, AB = BC = CD = DA = a,
The area of the square = a 2

Step 2

According to the question, the area of the square is 48 cm 2.

Therefore, a 2 = 48 -----(1)

Step 3
If we look at the figure carefully, we notice the OC is the radius of the semi-circle and 'O' is the
center of the semi-circle.
Therefore, OA = OB = a/2

Step 4
In right angled triangle OBC,
OC2 = OB2 + BC2 [By the Pythagorean theorem]
= (a/2)2 + a2
= (a 2/4 + a 2)
= 5a 2/4
= (5 × 48)/4 [From equation (1)]
= 60 cm2

Step 5

Now, the area of the semi-circle = π(OC) 2/2

= (π × 60)/2
= 30π

Step 6

Hence, the area of the semi-circle is 30π cm 2.

(2) (3a + 2b + 3c) (3a + 2b - 3c)

Step 1
We know that,
(a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2,
a2 - b 2 = (a + b)(a - b)

Step 2

The factors of the polynomial (9a2 + 12ab + 4b 2 - 9c 2) can be found using above identities as
following,
9a 2 + 12ab + 4b 2 - 9c 2 = {(3a) 2 + 12ab + (2b)2} - (3c) 2
= (3a + 2b)2 - (3c) 2
= (3a + 2b + 3c) (3a + 2b - 3c)

(3) 221

Step 1
Let x = 1.232323...... equation(1)
Let us multiply both sides by 100:
100x = 123.2323.... equation(2)

Step 2
Let us subtract equation(1) from the equation(2):
100x - x = (123.2323...) - (1.232323......)
⇒ 99x = 122
122
⇒x=
99
p 122
⇒ = (Writing x as p/q)
q 99
Now, p = 122 and q = 99
⇒ p + q = 122 + 99
⇒ p + q = 221

Step 3
Therefore, the value of (p + q) is 221.

Step 1
This is a little complicated, so follow carefully

Step 2
For making the explanation and the equations simpler, think of the number on the pieces of paper
in the form of (2n+1)
Here, we can see from the equation 2n+1 = 13, so n=6

Step 3
The probability of getting 3 numbers in an A.P by selecting 3 numbers randomly between 1 and 13
is the ratio of
- Number of ways we can get an A.P from 3 random numbers between 1 to 13, and
- Number of ways to select 3 random numbers between 1 to 13

Step 4
Let's look at the second part first. Three tickets can be drawn from (2n+1) numbers is in [(2 x n) +
1] C 3 ways
(2n+1)(2n)(2n-1)
i.e. Number of ways 3 tickets can be drawn =
3x2x1

n(4n2-1)
Simplifying this, we get the number of ways to draw 3 numbers between 1 and 13 =
3
Here n = 6, so we can simplify it as 286

Step 5
Now for the ways we can get an A.P from 3 numbers bwetween Arithmetic Progressions of 3
numbers would be a sequence of 3 numbers that are separated by a common interval e.g. 1,2,3 or
3,5,7 etc.
They are in the form (a, a+d, a + 2d), where a is an integer from 1 to (13-2), and d is another
integer
So it's helpful to think of the solution in terms of this interval.
So we'll think of all the sequences that have an interval 1, then sequences with interval 2, and so
on

Step 6
So what are the possible sequences with interval 1. They are
(1,2,3)
(2,3,4)
...
(2n-1,2n,2n+1)
There are therefore 2n-1 such possible sequences

Step 7
Similarly, let's look at A.P with interval 2 between the terms. They are
(1,3,5)
(2,4,6)
....<2n-3,2n-1,2n+1>
There are 2n-3 such possible sequences

Step 8
We can generalize this to say that the number of such sequences with interval 'd' is (2n-(2d-1))
Copyright 2017 www.edugain.com Personal use only. Commercial use is strictly prohibited.
ID : U-105311-145-8394-NTSE-Maths [8]
Obviously the largest possible integer is d=n, with just one sequence (1, n+1, 2n+1)
Step 9
So the total number of such sequences is
(2n-1) + (2n-3) + (2n-5) + ... + 5 + 3 + 1
This is itself an AP with n terms and d=2
n
The sum of this sequence is [2 + (n-1)2]
2
Simplifying, we get n2
Here n=6, so this is 36

Step 10
18
So the probability is
143

(6) 10

Step 1
Given 6 players are playing the game by forming two teams of three players.
The following combinations of players are possible:
Team A Players Team B Players
Sulekha, Radha and Sneha Priyanka, Pradip and Akshiti
Sulekha, Radha and Priyanka Sneha, Pradip and Akshiti
Sulekha, Radha and Pradip Sneha, Priyanka and Akshiti
Sulekha, Radha and Akshiti Sneha, Priyanka and Pradip

Sulekha, Sneha and Akshiti Radha, Priyanka and Pradip
Sulekha, Priyanka and Pradip Radha, Sneha and Akshiti
Sulekha, Priyanka and Akshiti Radha, Sneha and Pradip
Sulekha, Pradip and Akshiti Radha, Sneha and Priyanka

Total combinations = 10

Step 2
Thus, the number of different ways = 10

(7) 70°

Step 1
We know that a chord subtends the same angle to points on the circumference of the circle that
are on the same side
Here, we know ∠ADB = ∠ACB
Also, in triangle APC, ∠APC + ∠ACP + ∠PAC = 180°

Step 2
We need to find ∠DAC
∠DAC = ∠PAC = ∠APB - ∠ACB = ∠APB - ∠DAC = 110° - 40° = 70°

(8) (7p - 4) (7p - 4)

Step 1

Using algebraic identity (a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2

(7p + 4) 2 - 112p = (7p) 2 + 56p + (4)2 - 112p
⇒ (7p + 4)2 - 112p = (7p) 2 - 56p + (4)2
⇒ (7p + 4)2 - 112p = (7p) 2 - 2(4)(7p) + (4) 2

Step 2

Now using algebraic identity (a - b)2 = a2 - 2ab + b 2

⇒ (7p + 4)2 - 112p = (7p - 4) 2
⇒ (7p + 4)2 - 112p = (7p - 4) (7p - 4)

(10) 18 cm

Step 1
Consider the figure given below:

We have drawn a diameter RS parallel to AB.

Step 2
Now, RS is a diameter perpendicular to CD (As, RS is parallel to AB and AB is perpendicular to
CD).
We know, when a diameter is perpendicular to a chord it bisects the chord and its arc. Therefore,
RS bisects arc CD.
So, Arc RC = Arc RD
Also, as AB // RS. We have, Arc AR = Arc BS

Step 3
Since, RS is a diameter. Arc RS cover a semi circle.
Arc RS = Arc RC + Arc CS = Arc RD + Arc CS (As, Arc RC = Arc RD)
= Arc RD + Arc CS - Arc AR + Arc AR (Adding and subtracting Arc AR)
= Arc RD + Arc CS - Arc BS + Arc AR (As, Arc AR = Arc BS)
= (Arc RD + Arc AR) + (Arc CS - Arc BS)
= Arc AQD + Arc BPC

Step 4
We know length of arc BPC is 4 cm, and need to find length of arc AQD.
From the previous analysis, we know that arc BPC and arc AQD cover a semi circle, so the total
length of the two arcs is half the circumference.
22
Circumference of the circle = 2 π r = 2 × × 7 cm = 44 cm
7
1
Length of arc BPC + Length of arc AQD = × 44 cm = 22 cm
2
Length of arc AQD = 22 cm - Length of arc BPC = 22 cm - 4 cm = 18 cm.

(11) Rs. 30

Step 1
According to the question, we have been asked to find the cost price of a toy.
Let's the cost price of the toy be x.

Step 2
Selling Price, S.P. = Rs. 33
1 1
Gain = of cost price = x
10 10
Gain = Selling Price - Cost Price
1
x = 33 - x
10
1
⇒ x + x = 33
10
1
⇒ x( + 1) = 33
10
11
⇒ x( ) = 33
10
33 × 10
⇒x=
11
⇒ x = 30

Step 3
Therefore, the cost price of toy is Rs. 30.

(12) Area : 192 cm 2

Step 1

The area of the triangle ABC can be calculated using Heron's formula, since all sides of the
triangle are known.
S = (7 + 15 + 20)/2 = 21 cm.
The area of the ΔABC = √[ S(S - AB) (S - BC) (S - CA) ]
= √[ 21(21 - 15) (21 - 20) (21 - 7) ]
= 42 cm 2

Step 2
2 × Area(ΔABC)
The height(BD) of the ΔABC =
AC
2 × 42
=
7
= 12 cm

Step 3

In right angled ΔBDC, DC2 = BC2 - BD2

⇒ DC = √[ BC 2 - BD2 ]
= √[ (20)2 - (12) 2 ]
= 16 cm
The area of the rectangle BDCE = BD × DC
= 12 × 16
= 192 cm2

(13) 14π cm 3

Step 1
4
The volume of a sphere of radius r = πr3
3

Step 2
If it fits perfectly within a cube, this means the length/width/height of the cube is the same as the
diameter of the sphere i.e. 2r.

Step 3

The volume of a cube of side 2r = (2r) 3 = 8r3.

Step 4

So, 8r3 = 84 cm 3
This means, r3 = 10.5 cm3

Step 5
4
We know, volume of the sphere = πr3
3
4
Subsituting the value of r3 in the above equation,we get the volume = π × 10.5 = 14π cm3

(14) 2:1

Step 1
Consider the image below:

We see that the line drawn at point O perpendicular to OO′ meets the line PQ at a point R.
A similar line drawn at O′ meets PQ at a point S.
Now, PA is a chord, and OR is a line perpendicular to it drawn from the centre of the circle.
We know that a perpendicular drawn from the centre of a circle to a chord bisects the chord.
Therefore, OR bisects PA, i.e. PR = RA or PA = 2RA.

Step 2
Similarly, AQ = 2AS.
We know, PQ = PA + AQ
⇒ PQ = 2RA + 2AS
⇒ PQ = 2(RA + AS)
⇒ PQ = 2OO′   (RA + AS is the same as OO′)

Step 3
The ratio of PQ:OO′ is 2:1.

(15) b. 3

Step 1
We know both and are irrational numbers, as they are not perfect squares

Step 2
The product of the two is also irrational, as is their average

Step 3
The approximate value of is 2.44, and the approximate value of is 3.6. This rules out 3.7

Step 4
So out of the 4 choices, we are only left with 3
