City of Jefferson – Mandatory Evacuation and Declaration of Emergency

Jefferson City, Mo. –Mayor Carrie Tergin has issued a Declaration of Emergency pursuant to Chapter
11 of the City Code that applies to Jefferson City.

A Mandatory Evacuation has also been issued for all City of Jefferson citizens and businesses north of the
Missouri River effective at 5:00 p.m. on May 22, 2019, and continuing until lifted by Mayor Tergin or by
the City Council. The Mandatory Evacuation states “any person who refuses to comply with this evacuation
order is deemed to have notice that the City of Jefferson may not be able to provide emergency services to
persons within the evacuated area and could be held responsible for all costs incurred by the City in
providing emergency services that are reasonably related to such person’s failure or refusal to comply with
this evacuation order.” In the event of an emergency please call 911.

As with any weather emergency, the public and media should monitor the City website for the latest updates
on flooding in Jefferson City at www.jeffersoncitymo.gov. Please contact Public Works at (573) 634-6410
for any additional information.

The City urges its citizens in low lying areas to take necessary precautions to protect their property, obey
road closures and not drive through flood water.
