Configure sound card output as following steps. Find “Sound Card” item and click “Config”
button to pop up config interface.
Select the corresponding output device in pop-up dialog box. The default is “Default
DirectSound Device”. “Max queue samples” is used to maintain the real-time of audio card
output. After starting audio card output, click “Status” to adjust the output volume.
16 / 95
2) Save Directory Path
Click “Browse” button to select output directory. The filename will generate by time
automatically. For example: 08-31-10-07-12.avi is the format of “month-day-hour-minute-
second.avi”.
The output disk partition should use NTFS file system. Because the maximum file size of
FAT32 is 4GB, it is too small for AVI file recording.
3) Split by time.
If enabled “Split by Time”, the output avi file will be split into many small avi files by time.
There are several benefits for splitting files:
1. If accident cases occur (such as the suddenly power off, system halted, program
crashed, etc.) during AVI output, the recorded file is in completed and useless. If you
split files, just the last small segment avi file can’t be used, others are ok.
2. There are some factors (such as the lower machine configuration, too high CPU usage)
can lead to video and audio out of synchronization. Splitting files can avoid this.
17 / 95
4) Video Codec
Click "Codec" drop-down box to select the appropriate encoder. You should install
ExtendCodec first if you can’t find Canopus codec. The list of recommended video codec is
shown below:
5) Audio Codec
Set to “None” for audio codec.
3.4 Decklink
Decklink I/O card can output several signals (such as SDI, composite, component, HDMI
etc). Please refer to the follow link: http://www.blackmagic-design.com for details.
NOTE: Decklink card support input and output, but input and output can’t be used at the
same time for each channel.
Follow the steps to config Decklink output:
1) Install Decklink card on the motherboard, and then install the driver. The driver
version must larger than version 8.0. We recommend you download the latest driver
from the follow: http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/.
2) Find “Decklink” item and click “Config” button.

detected at once. If not, select “Force television detection” and “Force television detection on
startup”. Then restart your computer.
20 / 95
6. Display card output
Find “Display card” item on “Output” interface and click “config” button. Select the display
that used for output from the display list.
21 / 95
2) Output settings show as below.
MP4 output support two types: File and RTMP stream. The files support MP4 and FLV.
Stream ID: It supports three streams to encode simultaneously. Each stream can save as
file, push to RTMP server, set Deinterlace, bit-rates and size. 01, 02 and 03 stand for three
streams. If you want to use any stream, just check the “Stream ID” box.
File: Files are saved as MP4 or FLV format. Click the drop down list under “File” to select
“MP4” or “FLV”. If you select “None”, it doesn’t save as file. If you enable save file, you should
set a directory and a name for your files. If you do not set a filename, it will automatically
generate. If you enable multiple streams, you should add “%I” in filename. It will replace “%i”
with stream ID automatically in multiple stream condition.
RTMP PUSH: Stream pushing supports RTMP protocol. Each stream supports push to two
server addresses, which are “Server1” and “Server2”. Check the box and start to push to
corresponding server. The address of RTMP server can be configured in Rtmp Property.
Bitrate: Video encode bit rate (kbps). If you select default, it adopts the configuration in
“H264 Setting”.
Output Video: The size of output video. If you select default, it adopts the size as the
project.
Deinterlace: Check this box for interlaced project. Otherwise the moving screen of output
video produces jagged effects.
3) RTMP Property
Click “Rtmp Property” tab.
22 / 95
“RTMP Stream 01”, “RTMP Stream 02” and “RTMP Stream 03” correspond to three
streams. Each stream can push to two RTMP servers. The address includes URL and a name of
stream, for example, URL: rtmp://192.168.0.123:1935/live, stream name: c01.
4) H264 Setting
Click “H264 Setting” tab.
Encode type: There are three encoding types: ABR, CQP and CBR. ABR is average bitrate,
the max bitrate is (1+ Bitrate Tol) * bitrate. CBR is constant bitrate. CQP is constant equalizer,
23 / 95
the constant quantifier value from 0 to 69, the less value means the better quality. CBR is
suitable for live streaming, and CQP is suitable for file recording.
Max key frame interval: It is the interval to insert key frame. The default is 250. This value
you set will influence compressing effect and encoding delay.
Bitrate: Video encoding bitrate (kbps).
Bitrate Tol: The floating range of ABR encoding. The max bitrate =(1+ bitrate Tol)* bitrate.
Advanced: It needs advanced settings in a few cases, such as setting low encoding delay,
reducing encoding CPU etc. Check “Enable advanced-settings” box and click “Advanced” button,
then it shows the advanced settings interface.
It is use to reduce CPU consumption commonly. So set the presets to "Ultra fast". To
reduce the encoding delay, set Tunes to "zerolatency".
5) AAC
Click “AAC” tab.
24 / 95
MPEG Version: There are two versions of MPEG: MPEG-4 and MPEG-2. We suggest
choosing MPEG-4.
Complexity: We suggest choosing “LOW” because of its better compatibility.
Bit rate: The default is 128kbps. We suggest choosing 48Kbps or 32Kbps for network live
broadcast.
Output Format: The default is Raw.
Any question about high resolution MP4 record, please refer to the content NO 20
“Common problems and solutions” Q8.
After MP4 output starting, click the “State” button to show the monitor interface.
The format of Avg upload rate is: real time upload rate (average upload rate).
25 / 95
3.7 MPEG2
MPEG2 output is used for MPEG2 file recording with MPEG2 video and audio encoder. The
files support MPEG2 PS and MPEG2 TS package, and it can output UDP stream of MPEG2 TS.
The recorded MPEG2 files can be imported into nonlinear edit system and burn to DVD disk.
Preset: Select “preset” item according to project and application. It will set other
parameters automatically. If you select “none”, you can set other parameters by yourself.
Rate Control: Average bit-rates or constant bit-rates.
YUV format: YUV420 or YUV422. YUV420 has a better compatibility.
Video: Video encode bitrate.
GOP: Video key frame interval.
Audio: Audio encodes bitrate.
26 / 95
2) Output file
Output: If it is packaged by PS, select “vob (.mpg)”. If it is packaged by TS, select” ts (.ts)”.
Check “File” box and click “Browser” button to select output directory. The file name
generates automatically according to time.
3) Network stream
After MPEG2 output starting, click “status “to show the status monitor interface.
27 / 95
3.8 Virtual Device
Virtual device is a bridge for connecting VJDirector2 with other software. It is used for
other software to capture the output signal from VJDirector2.
Virtual device uses TCP/IP transmission and supports remote capture. Because it transmits
uncompressed raw video/audio data, so the data rate is very huge. Some high resolution
projects (such as 1080p) can’t use it to capture.
For example, using “VJDirector2 + virtual device + adobe flash encoder 3.2” to output
RTMP stream.
1) Enable virtual device output.
2) Install and run Adobe Flash Encoder 3.2. Select “VJD Virtual Video Device” and “VJD Virtual
Audio Device” on device list as shown below:
The default address of virtual device is 127.0.0.1:8601. If you want to capture a remote
VJDirector2, you need to configure virtual device in capture software.
28 / 95
3.9 WMV Encoding
WMV encoder can encode the output video and audio by windows media video/audio
codec, it can do windows media streaming and save as WMV file. It can work with Windows
Media Service, VJLive (P2P) and other stream media servers.
NOTE: WMV encoder uses the Windows Media Encoder kernel; you need ExtendCodec
which include the Windows Media Encoder.
Follow the steps to do WMV output config.
1) Find the “WMV Encoding” item, and click “Config” button.
2) “WMV Encoding Settings” dialog box will pop up, it is similar to Windows Media Encoder.
3) Output settings
WMV encoding supports three output modes: “Push to server”, “Pull from encoder” and
“Encode to file”.
“Push to server” can push stream to streaming servers. If the stream media server is
Windows Media Service (WMS), you should configure WMS to enable “HTTP control protocol”
and set HTTP port. If is VJLive, the default port is 8083, you don’t need to configure.
“Pull from encoder” is that players and stream media servers can pull streams from
VJDirector2. It is opposite to “Push to server”.
29 / 95
“Push to server” is suitable for the situation that VJDirector2 is running at private LAN, but
stream media server is running at internet.
“Pull from encoder” is suitable for the situation that VJDirector2 and streaming server are
in the same LAN.
“Encode to file” saves the stream as WMV file.
4) Compression
Configure compression parameters here, such as size, frame rate, bit rate etc.
30 / 95
5) Video Size

Q10. How to repair the broken file when a crash of VJD2 occurs during the MP4 file recording?
A10.
STEP1: Download the Digital Video Repair from this website:
http://nagasoft.cn/download/VirtualDub-1.9.11.zip
STEP2: Record a reference file which length is close to the broken file under the same project.
Make sure the reference file is available.
SETP3: Backup the broken file to prevent the failure of repair.
SETP4: Open MyFileCopy.exe, source File is the reference file, target file is the broken file. We
suggest that you should copy 10240 Bytes (10K) message of reference file’s head to the broken
file.
STEP5: Open dvr.exe, choose the file that saved in step4 as the Input File and set the
repaired file’s location. Then click “Check & Repair” to rebuild indexes.

STEP6: Close dvr.exe and open VirtualDub.exe, File→Open video file, import the AVI file that
saved in step5. Video→Direct stream copy, copy the head message to the rest part. At last,
File→Save as AVI.
STEP7: If any errors occur, repeat STEP4 / 5 / 6, and appropriately increase the length in STEP4,
for example, 100KB (102400), 1MB (1024000). The bigger broken file, the more you copy.
