CRITICAL THINKING SKILL THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF SELF STUDY ACTIVITY IN PANCASILA AND CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION (study at SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta year 2019). The research aims to find out: 1) The strategy of teachers in improving students critical thinking skills through the application self study activity in Pancasila and citizenship education in SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta; 2) teacher's supporting and inhibitory factor in enhancing the learners ' critical thinking skills through self study activities in Pancasila and citizenship education. The study uses a qualitative approach, a type of qualitative descriptive research. Data sources are obtained from the informant, place and document. Sampling techniques using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques using interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data validity using trianggulation data and Trianggulation method. Analyze data using interactive analysis models. Result of the research: 1) teacher’s strategy in enhancing the critical thinking skills of learners through self-study activities in Pancasila and citizenship education in SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta are : a) teacher need to have a good understanding about the components Development and characteristics of self-study activities; b) The teacher designing the planning, implementation, and evaluation activities; c) The teacher makes a learning activity by displaying questions of Higher Order Thingking Skills (HOTS); d) The teacher makes an interesting activities. 2) The teacher’s supporting factor in enhancing the learners ' critical thinking skills through self-study activities in Pancasila and citizenship education includes: a) schools facilities; b) The positive response from the students with the self-study activity; c) Learning activities in the self-study activities leads to the growing of Higher Order Thingking Skills (HOTS) that support critical thinking skills; d) Self-study activities as a self-learning strategy that helps students achieve learning submission. While there are 2 the teacher's inhibiting factor in improving learners ' critical thinking skills through self-study activities in Pancasila and citizenship education. Fisrt the internal factors such as the fear of Learners to try the self-study activities so that they tend to be passive for critical thinking, lack of learners ' ability to communicate because they tend to receive any material provided by teachers, causing less critical thinking skills, and The lack of motivation in the students is not interested in Pancasila and citizenship education. Second, external factors include the response of nearby friends who often laugh at other learners when put the wrong answer, limited allocation of time also makes learners difficult to improve critical thinking skills, learners who have Completion of self-study in Pancasila and Citizenship Education must wait for other students to get new material taught by the teacher, and the difficulty of printing the learning in Pancasila Education and Citizenship , which causes the students difficulty to take care of them so that they are easily affected.
