Background

In recent decades, large amounts of time and money have been put into eradication of
poverty. According to World Bank report (CNBC, 2018), 10 percent of
the world's population lived on less than $1.90 a day in 2015, down from 11.2 percent
in 2013. That means 735.9 million people lived below the poverty threshold in 2015,
down from 804.2 million.
Jack Thompson foundation (JTF) committed to helping indigenous people settled in
Australia use their natural resources to build their own homes and will establish a
framework for self-determination through the provision of corporate investment (Jack
Thompson Foundation, 2019).
The Foundation ensures success of the projects it facilitates by following these
guidelines and encouraging local aboriginal people to have ownership of their own
projects.
In the recent years, JTF expects to achieve $100 million investment to create the self-
determination project in North East Arnhem Land. The content of the project is
supporting investment for the growth of the Ironwood export profit and using these
profits to build homes for local indigenous people

Purpose of project

The Jack Thompson Foundation Homeland Building Program addresses unemployment

and housing shortages. The foundations projects seek to address these through an
integrated learning program with practical on the ground skills (Jack Thompson
Foundation, 2019). The aim is to facilitate the teaching of indigenous Australians, how
to build their own houses out of the materials and resources available in their own
country: the “living ground”.

Strategy and goals of project

Foundation gives their project strategies through a variety of considerations. Achieving

the final plan of the project through the economic independence of the indigenous
people in each region. Their vision is to support this progression through creating an
Ironwood export industry, creating a domestic timber products hard-ware supply, as
well as increasing community wellbeing through our building, employment and
training projects. Profits from timber exports will be placed in a trust fund and the cost
for the establishment of homestead housing will be paid from this trust fund. The project
will become a long-term and self-determination project by running the project lifecycle.
